That's so very sad and awful, certainly not a time to hold people to ransom, it's distressing beyond words, but just underlines how great the NHS actually is x
Tragic story, thank heavens for the kindness of those who have helped them.
it sounds as if they didn't have enough insurance?

This sort of thing is always possible if you don't. Americans don't like patients leaving unpaid bills either.

Still, you can contribute to their crowdfunding site if you like. It must have been a very stressful experience for them.
//but just underlines how great the NHS actually is//

Err no. It underlines how the NHS uses public tax money to be a right-on World Health service.

I'm very sorry for this couple but
1) Why go to such a far flung place with clearly inadequate insurance when pregnant?
2) Why expect another country to pay for you?

It's not as if they refused treatment - like some countries would. She took the treatment now has to pay.
She goes on holiday approx 36 weeks pregnant.....STUPID.
She needs an emergency operation which is related to her pregnancy........not covered by insurance?
The surgeons , nursing staff and hospital need spaying...reasonable.
They keep her there until she pays up.....reasonable but may be questionable.
They are going to get rid of the dead baby.......I don't believe it.
The surgeons , nursing staff and hospital need spaying

erm.... yeah
LOL...paying NOT spaying. ^^^^
another uncivilised merde aperture.
Give em the money... God praise the NHS.
What a stupid woman, I would not give her a penny.
"another uncivilised merde aperture."

Different culture.. In the UK we cater to foreign people in need, which a lot of 'us" don't like.. (i do) this is how it is if we didn't mindlessly help others. This is what people want the UK to be like.
I'll grant you not the wisest thing to have gone somewhere whilst pregnant with inadequate insurance, but have a bit of compassion Sparkly she's lost her baby, that's a huge thing, and quite enough imho.
She was totally stupid. Nothing else to say.
I'm not disagreeing with that, but people are human and frequently are, that's why we have compassion to counteract it and try to salve it. No point making a bad situation worse by being harsh when a little money and compassion can make things better for someone in pain.
More than a little money involved, there are more worthy causes than stupid people.
I don't believe for a minute they were going to 'dispose of the body'. Its a tragic tale that could have been avoided. Years ago if you were pregnant you were not allowed on a flight after 30 weeks, has this changed?
^ Generally, you need a doctor's note after 28 weeks, can't fly at all after 36 weeks and after 32 weeks for multiple pregnancies
Generally 36 weeks now AL x
Gosh when I was 30 weeks pregnant ( all four times) the last thing I would want to do was go on a long haul flight. She must have been really keen.
Poor parents though, that pic of the baby is adorable, its such a shame, I hope they get him back safely and lay him to rest.
they may have booked the holiday in advance
