We’re facing a global threat, a many headed hydra that thinks it’s cool to bomb schools, theatres, trains, to stab us and to now drive cars into us.

I have no problems with the moderates of them, just the twisted mentally Ill potential mass murderers.

Our government are okay behind bullet/ bomb proof cars, 24 hour armed security and living in safe fortresses whilst the rest of us going about our daily business are targets and game for these twisted psychopath.

I talk daily to my stateside brethren who always laugh at Europe and us at being unarmed in This UNHOLY war and we

You might want to take a look at this Gun Violence Archive and compare it to the number of attempted terror attacks in Europe.

Obviously these problems are somewhat different in nature. But your solution will introduce one problem and not necessarily do anything to affect the original one.

I think the government would be better teaching people to spell.

It is "bear arms" not "bare arms"

Kromo 441 against the uk just in the last year compared to something like 4-20 in 20 years or do the the states and this isn’t including the many hundred ld of attempts and actual terrorist murderers in Europe so it shows that the states are doing something different to us and Europe and what my stateside brethren tell me it’s that they’re armed and we are not.

Please give or take the exact numbers as my reading glasses are upstairs and mr reumatism is hurting quite badly so cannot read the walls of texts accurately.

Thank you for correcting me Guillbeet but as I’ve said my eyes aren’t too good and am on plenty of medication for my pain.

Or guilbert53.

So I guess you would not be putting yourself in the'Combat Zone' too often then?
//441 against the uk just in the last year compared to something like 4-20 in 20 years or do the the states //

Do you have a source for this?

The thing is, even if this is the case, and even if it is because US citizens are armed (as opposed to having the best-funded intelligence service in the world) - you then have to factor in that arming the populace on such a scale all but guarantees a level of danger from gun violence that is worse than the current problem with terrorism.
//what my stateside brethren tell me it’s that they’re armed and we are not. //

How do you know that they are right?

Aah, nearly 17:00 and my beautiful grandchildren will be here soon so off with my political head and on with my grandad head ala worzel gummidge so please all have a pleasant afternoon and evening and would love to have more answers and more food for thought and debate when my grandkids go home.

Love and peace to all of you.
Have a nice weekend!
Having weapons freely available causes massive problems in America, and very seldom are the perpetrators of gun violence stopped by gun toting members of the public.

If you want to live in such a place then go and live in the US, but please don't import their ridiculous lack of gun control here.
With so many guns available to our American cousins how is it so many school shootings happen?
Firewithfire - Welcome to the AB, I hope you enjoy our community, and stay for a while.

If I am interpreting your point correctly, you appear to endorse the NRA's presumption, and mantra, that the way to stop a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun.

Sadly, this pre-supposes that the good guy' knows how to operate his firearm, and possesses sufficient superhuman self control that he will never ever shoot an innocent person, or shoot from anger, or decide that he knows better than the forces of law, just who the 'bad guys' are, and goes on a bit of a spree ...

It's a massively flawed argument, borne of the arrogance of an organisation with a seriously large vested financial interest in more people buying more guns, dressed up as some sort of 'saviour for mankind', when it is clearly anything but.

An increase in people carrying guns must lead to man increase in people using guns, and as i have said, assuming that a 'good guy with a gun' does not suddely become a 'bad guy with a gun' because, although he lacked the means to be a bad guy before, he has the means now.

If you really believe that ny civilian armed with a gun will use it properly and safely and make the world a safer place, them I suggest you have a misplaced faith in human nature.

Think you've answered your own question there Sandy
you're not luring me into looking at Kim Kardashian's statistics, Hopkirk.
There is only one thing to say...Dunblane here and how many school shootings by people with access to guns in the US? You talk about your grandchildren...do you want to put them at risk in school???
I have no doubt there are far more terrorist attacks on European soil than on American soil. However, I don’t believe an armed public would prevent it. All the guns in the US haven’t prevented the terrorist attacks it’s suffered.
‘am on plenty of medication for my pain‘

Ah, all becomes clear.
I think differently. We should have the right to protect and respond. Training should be mandatory in firearm usage. License obligations enforced. Background checks undertaken, and tight legal requirements for an acceptable use of firearm. But self defence is a basic human right. Enough said.
