Yes but a driverless car is a different situation then being on a desolate space station with a dangerous malfunctioning armed robot.

Keep in mind that in 2001, the robot Hal caused some mayhem in the space-craft.

There’s no doubt that in the near future we’ll have robots in every home, taking place of dogs and running the planet BUT that’s probably going to happen after quite a few mishaps, accidents and robot caused murders.
Do these rules no longer apply?

A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

Sandy, rules? Robots are programmed by humans so if I program a robot to kill then it does so.

^^^ They're Isaac Asimov's Three laws of Robotics.
We all know many laws are broken.
I'm not worried. A robot would never replace my dog and i don't intend to be on a dresolate space station any time soon. Unless, of course, Burnley get drawn to play away there in this season's Europa League :-)

Robots do not follow rules, just programming until they malfunction or are reprogrammed.

This Issac?

A pet which never needs feeding, cleaning, can look after you, feed you, protect you and alert someone if you’re ill etc and never kill and eat you or your kids?

It’s the way forward AFTER all the kinks have been ironed out imo.
I know 100% that my dog will never kill or eat me.

LOL.
No point in worrying, it will happen whether you do or not.
I don’t possess a space station but if I did I’d probably think using robots to work on it was a good idea. If they go wrong they’re in space st least and not down here
Unless they have got super ray guns Ick ;-)
They all laughed at the Donald and his Space Force.

Who's laughing now?

Well, everybody who's normal.
