awful though this is, it should be pointed out that the Chicago Police Department is under the jurisdiction of Chicago City Council which, since the last election, has been 96% democrat.

The President may not go on record as supporting the KKK, but their votes, and the votes of millions of Americans who agree with their racism are too valuable to lose.
That explains why, if he had an ounce of moral fibre, Trump would disavow the KKK publicly, frequently, and vehemently, because he does not agree with their vile racism.
The fact that he does not speaks volumes for his morality as a human being, and his fitness to be the President.
Failing to distance himself from an organisation whose entire stated raison d'etre is a race war, means that the dubious notion that their support of him does not equal his support of them fails to hold water.
Trump can't afford to be a racist pig, but he has no issue in quietly accepting the stated backing of a group who are.
He has the moral standards of a cigar butt.
