// David Davis has written to the Prime Minister warning that her plan for Brexit to be presented to the Cabinet at Chequers on Friday is unworkable.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal the Brexit Secretary has sent a letter, setting out his opposition to Theresa May's so-called "third way" plan, amid concerns the EU will reject it out of hand. //

Wrong man in the wrong job at the wrong time. He needs to go for the necesssary progress to be made for a smooth and successful Brexit.

We seem to be in the unfortunate position of a shortage of able intelligent politicians on either side. To some extent Mrs May and the country has been lucky that the opposition is so poor. Looking back to the days of the big beasts doesn't help. But we could do with a few of them now. He has always come across as one of the weak links and I hope they can find someone...

sadly, several top cabinet ministers need to be sacked. I can remember numerous occasions in recent decades when Britain's opposition was weak as water, but I don't believe I've ever seen the ruling party in such chaos, as a result of incompetence and malignity.
It’s been time to sack David Davis for months. Shockingly arrogant and incompetent man.
May dare not sack him. He will have to go of his own accord. Remember what LBJ said about better inside the tent than outside.

He has always come across as one of the weak links and I hope they can find someone with a little more bite. We need strong leaders I am not sure where we will find them.
The time to sack Davis was the "Brexit impact studies" fiasco. Unfortunately May is so weak that she can't sack anyone.
I think she is just stuck for alternatives. If it was a footie game you'd have to say there are no impact players on the subs bench
Why sack him If he is actually right! Wrong man in the wrong job? She has to have someone about that is able to see through the flimflam.

If it is unworkable she will be shown up when she grandly and confidently presents it and ... oh no it’s crap!!!

In any case she has passed it through the EUs hands to make sure they are happy with it. Which means we have or are about to give an awful lot away again.
Also if he is challenging them it is a good thing. We need a reasoned voice. TBF that needs to be someone like JRM
Davis, Boris Gove, and of course wee willie Mogg, will all be a threat to her on friday, can she or even the Tory party survive , much longer .
I know someone on the inside of what's going on and her view is that what the Press is pouring out in buckets is largely drivel and has no substance other than brown stuff. In any negotiation, as anybody who has been involved in complex contracts, nothing is cast in concrete until the last minute.

There's an enormous amount of hype flying around on this one, most of it garbage, so hold your horses and take a deep breath....
and probably 3x200mg of Ibuprofen and monitor, as Sqad would say.....
Yes, it is time for DD to go. He hasn't exactly got a track record of getting things done and judging by his wooly, bumbling and often incomprehensible explanations, can't exactly be mustard at the negotiating table.

Contrary to popular belief, there isn't a shortage of competent, clear-thinking and savvy Tory Brexiteers who could probably handle the negotiations much better. Theresa Villiers, Nadhim Zahawi, Michael Ellis, Dominic Raab and Adam Afriyie spring to mind. In my opinion, the longer Davis is in the driving seat, the longer the negotiations will stay on the road to nowhere.
The press does surely report any real or imagined discord. And we lap it up and repeat it in a way that reiterates our thinking.

However anyone in power, and in this case the PM should be aware the press and media can make or break them with what and how they report events.

She may think the reporting is way off the mark but it has the effect of undermining her nonetheless.

I imagine the cabinet will reluctantly support May on Friday.
If Davis has written saying he opposes the third way option, how can he possibly remain in the job, if it gets approval from ministers?
Stating an opinion, which is likely true, is a reason to replace someone ? Is the idea only to have "yes men" so one can blindly make horrendous errors of judgement, with support, and foist them on the public ?
Not much solidarity in this government,. The EU must be very amused t the " progress" of brexit. .
Not if they have any sense... er ... oh... wait. Yes you're right. They'll be amused at what they have wrought.
Yes I agree with Old_Geezer it is good that we have politicians that are prepared to speak up on behalf of the public, instead of a load of yes men & women who constantly toe the party line.
I can't see any reason to sack him, maybe I'll change my mind when I know what the 3rd way is but knowing arch Remoaner Tersa the Appeaser it is probably out only in name which will not wash.

"If Davis has written saying he opposes the third way option, how can he possibly remain in the job, if it gets approval from ministers? "

So if (probably when) May shows her hand and we see how awful it is, if the cabinet have backed it then I should imagine a large part of the populous would be calling for the ministers heads not that of Mr Davis
There is only one option now and that is take the money off the table batton down the hatches and go for so called hard Brexit. As we should have done in the first place. The EU dont want anything else.
