It seems obvious to me, that if more material is used in the making of these larger size garments, one should expect them to cost more.

It depends on the response of customers. A business that angers its customers enough that they stop buying will pretty soon find itself having to justify its prices better, or even change them.

Alongside all the other stuff I posted about material costs, I did mention that other business considerations have presumably come into play, so in that at least I agree with ymb.

It's all about honesty - if a garment is the same in two ranges it should be the same price regardless of whether one range has the words 'Plus' or 'Curvy' in the title.
The problem is elsewhere might not be accessible. Ok in a big city where there are multiple specialist plus size outlets. In a small town New look might be the only place you can shop. Perhaps as well you need to put yourselves in the shoes of the teenager who wants to dress like her friends. You don't help her diet by making her feel marginalised and lowering her self esteem any further. Or putting a strain on already overstretched resources.
Rowan, businesses aren't in the business of providing social care and neither are they charities.
No but they do have an ethical responsibility not to body shame!
If people are ashamed of their bodies that's not the shop's fault.
This is all about fat people not wanting to admit they are fat and not wanting other people to point it out either. Perhaps if there was more so called fat shaming, it might be an incentive for them to do something about it instead of pussyfooting around the subject. Yes I was fat once and I admitted that yes I was a fat bloke but in the end I decided it was time I did something about it, so I did.

I once went on a ride at Aton Towers and had to get off because the bar wouldn't fit over me. Wasn't their fault that I had a paunch at the time.
Dave50 fat people know their fat - they just want to be treated equally
I feel I'm wasting my time, but I'll have one more try.

Main range - Size 18 - £22.99

Plus range - Size 18 - £24.99

Same garment, this is the type of situation that has brought this to the fore.

No one is saying that certain items shouldn't be a higher price but there has to be honesty and clear pricing.
So both are size 18 so both same amounts of material but one is more expensive because the label says plus size!

mmmmm
Yes that's what was discovered - the orders came in and were labelled and priced according to where they would hang in store.

Admittedly this accounts only for sizes that cross between ranges but it is poor practice.
As far as i can see - like mamya the same size top had different pricing because it was placed in different ranges - that's not right.

How can it be fair that the majority have to subsidise the gluttons? Whether it be on aircraft or in clothes shop.
Bhg
Talbot - the labour costs don't vary a lot across different sizes, in fact smaller sizes

Dats wot I sed
So no problem then, go get it off the main section.

As I suspected, nowt to do with cost of materials etc, just a way of increasing the prices by calling it a special range and giving it a different name.
Yes, ignore shoddy practice - why?
To 'Y'^
Because it is not worth getting worked up about.
