....... to the couple who were tortured in Libya? I don't think this govt should have apologized. It should have been a senior person from the Labour Party. The Tories had nothing to do with it. Labour were in power when it happened. I bet they were smirking as the Tory govt apologized on their behalf. Or were they squirming?

Why do you need a link, Naomi? Just Google it.
10ClarionSt, You asked the question and should have had the courtesy to provide a link. I had no idea what you were talking about.

goodgoalie, thank you.

Perhaps she should have apologised on behalf of a former government.
C’mon Naomi. Do you not watch the News.
Caught bits today, chrissa, - but clearly not that bit. If I'd known what the OP was talking about I wouldn't have asked.
Let's get real...……...Can anyone really see Blair having the good grace to apologise for any of the lies or crimes he committed? When did you last hear anyone from the left wing make an apology?
The government represents the country, and it was the country that did the thing that needs apologising for. Whichever party is/was in power at the time doesn't come into it.
ludwig has it right .

An official apology comes from the Government in power when the apology is made .

There has been times in the past and will be times in the future when a government had / will issue apologies for whatever reason for things that occurred which was not on their watch
10CST, "Why do you need a link, Naomi? Just Google it."

The site guidance says,
"It is common practice to offer a link to the news article you would like to discuss."

Not too much to ask for is it?

Maybe, but what's wrong with just Googling anyway? Besides, this item was all over the main news channels, headline story on the BBC. Do people still want a link in those circumstances? How often does the OP carry a link?

Ludwig, how often do we hear "....but when the opposition were in power..."?
And who will pay the £500,000 compensation? Yes got it in one the hard working British Taxpayer.

The country who would rather punish it's own brave service personnel if they have been accused of being little over the top towards Johnny Foreigner.
I hadn’t heard of it. But, having said that, I think there was enough info in your OP to clarify what your thread was about.
Always courteous to provide a link, tho.
Johnny Foreigner? Ouch!

I was courteous enough to provide one for you yesterday, Zacs, in another thread. I'm a good kid really! My mother used to say I was, anyway!

Yep, you did. Eventually.
I suppose that the British Govt. in whatever incarnation, is the responsible body - but it does seem very wrong that Mrs. May should have to apologise and 'Teflon Tony' gets away with it yet again. Does anyone know of a way in which he could be forced to apologise for his actions?
^^ Actually, cumulatively, (think about war etc.) how can he be jailed?!
