Asda is grim! Cheap and nasty as opposed to cheap and (mainly) excellent at Aldi and Lidl.

We save around £400 a month by shopping on line and not being tempted by their crafty store layouts / promotions. We have far less waste as well.
I think the home deliveries option is growing year on year and Amazon want a slice of that market. A big slice.
I agree about cadbury's too. It's been ruined. Many own-brand supermarket products are made by Kelloggs etc and are identical, but in different boxes.
hey Pixie, is Amazon's substitution policy as inventive as Tesco's?

(we didn't have any lamb chops, so here's a rat....)
Blimey! Lol. I haven't seen one yet... I might ask for a hamster :-)
Things I like at lidls/Aldis...
Continental meats and cheeses
Italian jarred antipastos
West country butter with seasalt crystals
Raspberries... lidls specialty range
Foil and cling film...heavy-duty and the cling film WORKS!...Aldi
Pork belly slices...Lidl, very tender and tasty
Frozen raw prawns...Aldi
Fresh fish...cod,salmon
Avocados, aubergines, romano peppers

I have never had any sub standard produce from ALDI... find their fruit and veg far superior to any other supermarket..also the cold meats..cheese...and frozen range... Waitrose was my regular and I find my ALDI better than them !
Aldi doesn't do sub standard as you know, Minty....they're German.....;-)

I treat their fruit and veg as I treat fruit and veg from my little greengrocer......buy little and often because it's not been treated with preservatives to keep it "fresh for ever" as most supermarkets do........
Who wants old preserved food?

Aldi free range chicken and ribeye steak....well if you don't find those better than you can get just about anywhere else then you're cooking it wrong..... :-)
Ahhh, that’s the reason Aldi appears to sell sub-standard food. If it comes from regular supermarkets we cook it right – if it comes from Aldi we cook it wrong.
Sees they are going to keep both brands separate.
I bought a whole chicken and I've never seen so much water come out of one. I may as well boiled it.
Wish there was a Waitrose near me. Nearest one is 10 miles away.
I've not bought whole chickens recently from either, just pieces-usually thighs, and I've never had a problem with water. Maybe it depends on individual branches...how they store, how much stock is handled.
I do think quality has improved over the past few years...both Aldi and Lidl have upped their game. They have to, cheap prices can't be the only reason people shop there.
One of those shopping programs on telly did a comparison taste test of salads between Aldi and M and S...aldi came out ahead.

Well I'll not grumble. I chopped in my Sainsbury's shares at market opening this morning. Got £3.23 a pop and made a tidy £1,200 (25%) profit in less than a year. Not really all that bothered how the merger goes!
