gawd elp us! Don't they teach anything in schools these days?
probably because nelson isnt a saint you muppet!
there have been English saints, though, and George isn't one of them (born in Turkey). Is there some reason for not choosing an Englishman?
If St. George isn't to your liking (or understanding) spath......try Shakespeare.
Born on this date 1564 (it is accepted) and died on this date in 1616.
Let's hope he had time to open his present....
TTT, without looking it up, why IS George England's saint?
Question Author
It's to do with the order of the garter, I think one of the King Edwards, set it up. He's also the patron saint of sevral other countries etc. He was actually Turkish and in the Roman Army.

I suspect most of spath's history lessons were by anti British lefty teachers demonizing TGL.
Question Author
yes St George was real like all the Saints, even St Tony.
patron saint of Georgia, would you believe. And skin diseases. It looks as though veneration came back from the Middle East with returning crusaders. Still doesn't explain why they couldn't have picked an Englishman, though.
spath, some people believe that St George killed a dragon the way others believe that St Tony won a Nobel Prize: it's all fiction, but it comforts the believers.
