Oh dear, I suppose this means we'll be seeing his smug grin plastered all over the news again for a bit.
It's only bail though.

One has to wonder at the thought pattern behind letting someone accused of sedition out at all especially with free borders.
Better stuffed than sprung lol
// One has to wonder at ... letting someone accused of sedition out at all especially with free borders.//

no, one has wonder if the German Bail Act is anything like ours [ erm can you see why it might be? ] -and if there is a reason to remand
I would have thought wanted for a state - crime in Thpain ( plotting the dissolution of the Kingdom - er of Thpain this is!) isnt one

a similar law in germany would have rendered saying I think West Gemany and East Germany should be united, liable to prosecution

apolz - taking AB too seriously - get back to the important things like great male voice choir question

The sedition charge is a non-runner

Spain has accused the former Catalan president of rebellion. The nearest equivalent in Germany is High Treason. But it ruled that in Mr Puigdemont's case there was no element of violence, so the charge was inadmissible.

However, the court said there could be a case to answer for misusing public funds last October in order to hold an unauthorised independence referendum. So it released him on 75k euros bail whilst enquiries into that are made.
// At least some German judges get it right. //

it is worth that Mansfield LCJ (*) got it right in 1762 (!) in R v Wilkes, let justice be done even tho the heavens fall !
( fiat justicia, ruant coela ) - he was referring to the mob outside threatening to cut his throat if he didnt do what the mob wanted ( he didnt)

It is a pity during the Gina Miller cases about Brexit that then Lord Chancellor didnt say the same about the judges - that they were there to interpret the Law and not to run in an election about whether Gina had a case or not

If you look at the history of Catalonia you may see they have a valid claim to independence, it all seemed to be a case of democracy in action, and the parliament voted overwhelmingly for it
Immediately following the vote, the Spanish parliament in Madrid voted to strip the Catalan regional government of its powers, invoking a never-before-used article of the constitution — Article 155 — which allows Madrid to dissolve the autonomy of a region if the unity of Spain is deemed at risk.
The people wanted a vote, he gave it them, the only violence came from the Guardia and the cops against people trying to vote, should he be imprisoned for 30 years for his actions ? I think not.
He certainly should not be imprisoned IMO but his actions have probably set back the cause of Catalan independence not advanced it.
He is part of a corrupt political set up : tho in that he’s probably no worse than the people in Madrid

Any chance of German courts getting rid of real criminals?
Catalonia will struggle as an independent nation when Tabarnia gains its independence. Then of course Tabarnia may struggle if Barcelona decides to go it alone.
lol
And it won't stop there
That area round the Ramblas has always had an independent spirit :-)
'the Ramblas' - do you speak Spanglish :)

The question is, will it be 'Les' or 'Las'?

where I live Acacia Avenue two roads up is running an independence referendum next month. :-)

NJ; I wish the Acacia Avenue residents the best of luck, but I doubt if their credentials for being considered for independence match those of Catalonia :0)

What always strikes me as wrong in these matters is that such a small majority can force a change. If you follow polls in Catalonia you will see that it is quite even and would depend almost what day it was and what the weather was like as to whether they voted for independence or not. In my opinion if you don’t have A or B then a simple majority is all that should be needed, but if you already have A then it should take a greater majority to force a change to B.
