The man joined Kurdish fighters who themselves had air cover from the French and the support of Britain. They fought ISIS in Syria.
He is now being prosecuted for terrorism.

Isn’t this nonsense? And a waste of money?

It is very easy to take this story on face value - honourable British soldier fights ISIS and is prosecuted for his trouble -

but experience shows that these situations are rarely as simple as the media likes to make them - in order to drum up readership as a result of 'support' for a 'wronged citizen'.

I would be inclined to wait a little, and see how this pans out, and I am willing to bet that there is far more to it than the media is willing to advise in these early stages.

The CPS are not stupid - they would not bring any prosecution without a realistic expectation of a conviction, which in itself indicates that they have more evidence than the media have advised thus far.

wheres baldric?

he will confirm that it is ( and was) unlawful for someone to sign up to fight for anyone besides Queen Elizabeth

and so yeah ... if you do so
you may get screwed

the men leaving have been told this
its not a state secret or anything

on a more impt note
does anyone kn ow what happened to the panorama prog on the returned ISIS gurl ?

Baldric will also confirm that Nelson ( d 1805) wore the sultans award wivvart the permission of the sovereign ( Geo III) - but it kinda got ignored
I'm surprised at you gromit this is the sort of thing you normally revel in.
AH: "The CPS are not stupid" - I'll take issue with that Andy and yes I have first hand experience.
you can fight for qn elizabeth and no one else without permission

which bit of that doesnt one understand ?
Hands up all those who thought defeating IS or the recovery of Assad would signal the end of the war in Syria.
Israelis in open conflict with Iranians, hundreds of Russians killed by US forces a week ago, US forces attacking Syrian govt forces, Turkey squaring up to just about anyone who makes a face at Erdogan.
It is complicated: it was complicated all the way. There probably isn’t a group fighting now that isn’t terrorist in someone’s eyes
TBH PP you talk in riddles I hardly ever bother to try and decipher.
TTT - // H: "The CPS are not stupid" - I'll take issue with that Andy and yes I have first hand experience. //

Fair enough - let me amend that statement to this -

The CPS are not knowingly and intentionally stupid ...

I think, on reflection, that's probably more accurate.
ichkeria - // There probably isn’t a group fighting now that isn’t terrorist in someone’s eyes ... //

I have said many many times on this site - the definition of a 'terrorist' depends whose gun barrel you are staring down.
hellooooo
free-tee
are you there ?
you cant join up for any army but the british army
coz it is against the law

which bit of
you cant do it because it is a crime
do we not understand ? duuh
PP, does that mean that I can't join the Foreign Legion?
QED
21.41 Pot and Kettle come to mind here.
The problem is people you called as "Kurdish fighters" (YPG-PYD-whatever is that) are related with the terrorist organization which is called PKK. No one denies it. Every EU countries and USA recognizes PKK as terrorist group officially.

Unfortunately Turkey was too late to enter the Syria against ISIS because of epic fails of Erdogan in politics. And Kurdish group was a good option (of USA and EU) for resolve the issue against ISIS. That wasn't what Turkey planning. I know there are many instability in politics of European countries for the situation of YPG-PYD. There is also a NATO ally which involved the issue in the region against USA. Now things are completely mess.

My self opinion is YPG is completely a terrorist organization. However I don't think that those people (from UK army) really meant to join them for support to terrorism.

Sorry for the grammar since I am Turkish.
// PP, does that mean that I can't join the Foreign Legion?//

yeah - da amercan army - the haitian militia - da tonton macoute - da french army - da nigerian air force

Will he?
Problems with evidence prevented the British government from convicting enlistees to the French Foreign Legion or those thousands who joined the fight against Francisco Franco in Spain.[6] wiki

the difference between something against the law
and being able to prove it or not
should be within the remit of the average Aber
