Voting twice for labour! Automatic entry to the funny farm, surely?
14:26 Sat 27th Jan 2018
A thread on this subject was posted shortly after the election where it was suggested that some students had voted more than once due to the fact that they were entitled to vote where they were at university OR where their home was.
The winner in the Chingford Parliamentary Constituency election should should be made to resign and the contest re-run.

This one vote is clear evidence of cheating, and clearly influenced the result.
He was only caught because he was thick enough to boast about it on twitter.
Unless there's a glaring reason to investigate, police won't go looking for trouble, especially in the obvious places.
Who needs babbling, arm waving, 'racist' chanting hordes taking to the streets to deflect attention so no, it won't be the first of many.
Remember this story doing the rounds last year , it is very old news , it must have taken a lot of time to dig out of the Archives.

^Although that talks about voluntary participation, I heard just this week, on the radio, that it's to be trialled in 5 areas including Tower Hamlets. (whether they like it or not)
I don't know has gromit's account been hi-jacked or something.
The old gromit would never have been so thick as to make light of this sort of thing.
Gulliver, on the other hand...

yes well they do have a little "previous" in respect of election irregularities.....

I have mentioned the Lutfur Rahman affair many times when this issue arises. The judgement which mushroom kindly provides is a long read but worthwhile if you’re so inclined because some of what it contains is quite breathtaking.

There is little doubt in my mind that widespread voting fraud takes place in many areas where there is a high concentration of Asians among the electorate. It is perhaps not so critical (yet) when it happens in a Parliamentary election as the constituencies are usually sufficiently large for any fraud to be of no consequence to the outcome. But it could well be so in a marginal constituency where a few tens or a hundred votes or so could well make the difference. However in local elections where the electorate numbers are so much smaller it can (and in the case of Rahman almost certainly did) swing the outcome.

The authorities need to get a grip on this and one of the simplest ways to deal with most of the fraud is to abolish postal voting on demand. If you read the Rahman judgement you will see that postal vote fraud formed a big part of Mr Rahman’s “success”. Postal votes should be available only for those people who are genuinely unable to get to the polling station.
electoral fraud jusgement
thanks Mushie
jesus 200 p read - it will keep me off the streets this rainy afternoon

when you are registered in two places it is made quite clear you have one vote
I am not too sure when they abolished oxbridge univ seats that before that the lucky undergrads had two

the court sat for the first time since god knows when - or was that the time before ? 1867 or something
so questions like 'where do I sit?' ahd a particular piquance
sure as NJ has pointed out that this is not an isolated incident.
Electoral fraud should result in a prison sentence. It is not a trivial crime.

Previous attempts at large scale electoral fraud have resulted in jail for the culprits.

// Five men, including two former councillors, were today jailed for their parts in a failed postal votes scam intended to get a Conservative candidate elected in the 2005 general election.
The former Bradford City councillor Jamshed Khan, Reis Khan – another former councillor – Mohammed Sultan and Mohammed Rafiq were each jailed for 21 months for their part in the conspiracy. //
one can only add good to the above ^^
There may be just a hint of a suggestion that this is an example of cultural differences brought to this country and can only enrich the nation with a new way of interpreting honesty and compliance with the law.
Some of my best friends............
@PP

University seats were abolished in 1948.
