Should people really get so upset at the sight of mixed race couples?

Seems like Daily Mail readers are infuriated at this innocuous advert.

Why is that?

I didn't see any fury. Just a couple of posts from white men questioning why there is a black man in the ad. Mostly, the comments seem to be about the continuity 'error'.

It doesnt look like anyone is infuriated. Many are pointing out how right=on the ads are i.e.White - tick Black - tick etc.

I suspect part of the problem for many is that tv(and advertising) tends to be London centric. London does not represent the majority of the country at all so things can come over as very unrealistic to people outside of London.
More like infuriated by folk pleading poverty and finding a grand for a phone.
Haha, very true Douglas.

I think the London thing is no longer true.

I’ve been to Bristol, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham and Nottingham and seen the same level of diversity there.

But aside from that - since when did adverts have to represent reality?

Has anyone ever bought a Ford Fiesta, then driven it at speed through completely empty Alpine roads?

Do the ‘master chocolatiers’ really lovingly ladle toffee for Werthers Originals?

...whilst wearing chefs hats?
struggling to see any fury SP. Are you hoping to generate some of your own? Odd you are looking round to try and find things to be offended by.
most seem to be debating whether the ear phone thing is an error.

Brilliant Ad imo, don't see any problem with it.
I watched it yesterday and I didn’t even notice it was a mixed race couple. I am surprised by the DM reader comments, we are well into the 21st century, and that mindset does not fit in the modern world.
no they shouldn't, not now, not ever.
// I suspect part of the problem for many is that tv(and advertising) tends to be London centric. London does not represent the majority of the country at all so things can come over as very unrealistic to people outside of London. //

The scene is in New York, not London. And Apple’s Advertising Agency is in the US, not in the UK.
Aye Gromit, that much was clear from the question, however the Daily Mail readers referred to are unlikely to be nibbling a bagel outside a fashionable Manhattan deli whilst, allegedly, fuming.

sp1814 may have to wait a while for the hoped for response from level-headed ABers, maybe try for the gay angle, (there will be one), that usually gets better results.
They filmed it in New York because she would have been mugged for the phone in London.
// Should people really get so upset at the sight of mixed race couples? //

They're not. They're annoyed about what they perceive to be the constant bombardment of political correctness, especially from profit maximising tax avoiders like Apple.

Personally I'm with Gromit. I wouldn't have even known they were a mixed race couple.
I always find using someone else’s earphones to be unhygenic and a bit yucky.
And people believing the missing earbud in the final scene is a continuity error, must be really stupid.
Cloverjo /// I didn't see any fury. Just a couple of posts from white men questioning why there is a black man in the ad.///

White men?
I wouldn't have even noticed they were a mixed race couple.

Someone posted on Facebook to Tesco saying they'd never shop there again because their xmas ad featured Muslims (I haven't seen it)

Sort into ‘Best rated’ order.

More than a couple.

Apple is an international company. This advert is being shown all over the world, not just the UK.

Therefore, why does the couple have to be white?

That seems to be the crux of the complaints.
