If the BBC is so biased, why do so many rank it as the first source of news they trust the most?

How can it be biased towards 'their way of thinking'? It would have to be biased towards the way of thinking of those who answered the Ipsos survey. As all those surveyed would have varying political and social outlooks, it would have to be biased to the left, the right and the centre...meaning that it's not biased at all!

That Ipsos poll suggests that 50% of people think the BBC is impartial, which means that 50% think it’s biased – and I would agree with them. We’re pre-conditioned with the notion that the BBC is reliable and fair – good old Auntie Beeb, upright and true, the bastion of Britishness, and all that. It’s not until something socks us in the eye that we actually pause to think, as I did a few years ago during a General Election report from the BBC’s then political editor, Nick Robinson. The BBC is biased.
That said, with all the ‘extras’ it provides it’s an incredible service. Second to none in the world. I just don't trust it's political reporting too much.

No Mikey. I am describing the alarming growth in "stories" that are generated by the BBC spin doctors. They are only ever "first off the mark" when the story is of their own making. Why do you think that they need to be competitive when it comes to "news"? Surely they have no competition, not being allowed to fend for themselves on a level playing field and all that.
Mikey, there are a few stories here that have proven to be, to put it politely, questionable.

If you are talking about their non-news output, then I will agree.......nobody else comes even close to the sheer breadth of their programming, on TV and especially on Radio.
Other Radio stations could try take on Radio 3 and Radio 4, but none seems to want to. I wonder why ?

How can they be in "competition" with news agencies that are responsible for generating their own revenue to enable them to operate? I would say the only competition they have comes from other such similar "news" outlets. Zimbabwe State News and the like. Of course it may be the British public themselves who are responsible for the BBC modus operandi. Furnishing them with huge "handouts" is surely tantamount to keeping them locked on benefits. We should allow them to demonstrate their skill and work ethic in the free market, giving them the opportunity to flourish as they deserve.
As I keep saying, right wingers think it's biased to the left and left wingers think it's biased to the right. As I don't really count myself as either, I think the BBC does pretty well.
Ultimately, as long as it's a human being doing the reporting (in any organisation), you're going to get their subjective view, however impartial they might set out to be.
It doesn't take genius to work out that the best policy is to look at a variety of views on a subject, and not take anything from a single source at face value.

It matters not a jot to the BBC whether 1 person or 50m people watch their output. They still get their £3bn each year (secured under threat of criminal prosecution).
I still do not know what the dozens of people sitting in the cavern behind the TV newsreaders do. They do little between 8am and 10pm because, bar an truly exceptional event occurring, the news at eight in the morning is the same as at 10pm.
I watch BBC news because it’s convenient. On all day, so there when I want t it.
ITV is only on at fixed times, and I always found Sky to be rather amateur, (although it’s been a long time since I’ve watched it) and with too many adverts and trailers.
I’ve often thought the BBC are biased in their reporting, but even worse, some of their reports can be too soppy and sentimental.
They should be reporting facts, not feelings.
Can’t stand Simon McCoy. He’d be better suited to some local news channel because he always wants to try and be amusing, and make humorous comments to other presenters/reporters/weather people, which I find unprofessional.
