Presentationally they wanted to be seen as fair to both petrol and diesel drivers. Coupled with the crooked car makers faking the emission results, meant that diesel was overlooked for higher taxation.
We now know that was a mistake, but the wrong decision was made with good intentions.

Every Government in the world were duped by the scam by carmakers.
It was quite a sophisticated scam whereby the cars software was programmed to detect when it was being tested, and then alter the settings so that the results were better. Nobody really believed that the carmakers would act in such an illegal manner, but they did.

yes I know but the software details only came to light recently. At the time they made the decision they must have put a bag over their heads or more likely been bunged. Everyone knows what that diesel is not suitable for cars. Have you seen the clouds of black smoke belching out of them? I have always known it how come politicians cannot see the obvious?
