We will never know, whatever the outcome of this appeal. The only people who will ever know what happened or didn't happen is Rolf and his accusers.

hc, I think that applies in the majority of these cases - it hinges too often on how well the prosecution can convince a jury.
didgeridid or didgerididn't

Les tricoteuse will be along shortly
I would not be at all surprised if at least some of the accusations were found to be groundless now that the whole thing has simmered down a far as reporting goes.
Fresh victims are lining up to accuse our leaders now that apparently every possible entertainer has been dragged through the courts with unseemly haste.
If citizens are prepared to take advantage of something like the fire at Grenfell Tower we get an indication of just how low people can go in pursuit of the free cash on offer.
Exactly so, Khandro.
The sad thing is whatever the outcome, if the convictions are overturned and he is judged to have been wrongly imprisoned there will be many people who still think he is guilty and his name will be tarnished until his dying day. There have been others declared to be innocent despite the police's best efforts who are still considered to have, in the words of my late mother, 'got off' or 'got away with it'.
Why didn't the father of this child speak up at the original trial?
Zebo, it so often is on a technicality and certainly wouldn't mean he has done nothing even if it was overturned. Hc is right.
There is what is known, and there is what can be proved, or in some cases disproved.

We must wait and see.
ladybirder at 20:13, that's the question I'm asking. I found the accusations against him difficult to believe until pictures of children were found on his computer.
this seems to be one charge. Why would it lead to all convictions being overturned?

"I wouldn't have let her go" hardly seems like compelling evidence. It doesn't sound as if he remembers anything about it either.
Really odd Naomi. He was convicted of 12 indecent assaults against four girls, including one aged eight, which took place between 1968 and 1986.

Apparently if one proves to be untrue then it throws doubt on all the rest and he would have a retrial.

Really?? One lives and learns.
I was abused at about the same age. I could tell you where I was when it happened but I couldn't tell you the day/month/year.

naomi; // I found the accusations against him difficult to believe until pictures of children were found on his computer. //

Exactly what were these pictures? My computer is packed with all sorts of pictures, including some of (wait for it) children! also many are of men!!! - he must be a homosexual, not to mention, animals - omg!

jno; //this seems to be one charge. Why would it lead to all convictions being overturned?//

The accused can only tried only on one single offence (I believe).

They were child pornography images.
///"I wouldn't have let her go" hardly seems like compelling evidence.///
You're right jno it doesn't.
I wouldn't have let my girls go to a lot of places when they were younger and it wasn't until years later I found out they did go to some of those places.
At the age of 8?
Khandro, //The accused can only tried only on one single offence (I believe).//

Not so. //Most people assume that when offenders appear for sentencing they have been convicted of a single crime. In reality, almost half the offenders at sentence are sentenced for multiple crimes.//

As for my comment on images found on his computer, I’ve no doubt you know exactly what I meant – but if you didn’t see Ummmm’s post at 23:23 Wed.

naomi; Your link is more of a university discussion paper than pointing to actual law and specific cases.
Has anybody seen what was described as "pornographic" images on RH's computer? - the term can be widely interpreted. A few years ago when people took their film to the chemists for developing and printing, many were reported to the police for photographs they had taken of their own children at bath time.
