*Christian. Before the thread is derailed by the AB spelling Police.
As this is going to be a service inside a Protestant church, I think the Vicar is daft.
well there's lots of "allegedly" and "been told" in the article and only one side of the story there. personally I have never liked that hymn.
Woofy....I find most hymns little better than dirges, and this one is no exception.
Another case of political correctness gone mad.
Oh and its not the "Christian Church" Its the "Church of England" "Baptist Church" and so on. You can be a Christian and never set foot in a church.
woofgang

It is still a Christian church.

Yes I am not keen on the hymn, well any hymn really.

Surely Onward Christian Soldiers and Fight the Good fight are best for Weddings?
'Snowflake' seen in Oadby, Leicestershire.
1 sided story, priest not commenting, so a couple of old men are getting their knickers in a twist!
lol YMB !
Yes indeed it is a church within the Anglican Convention.....but the "Christian Church" cannot wonder anything because as a body, it does not exist.

The vicar who married us used to say that the best hymn for weddings was "Through the Night of Doubt and Sorrow"
If it offends non-Christians at a Christian church then maybe the solution is for the potentially offended to attend a Remembrance Service at their temple or mosque instead ?
The Christian Church is suffering declining numbers because as a society we are moving towards a more secular and rational mindset.

Most committed church-goers aren't really phased by what hymns are chosen ....... it's usually older grumblies with a particular axe to grind who chunter on about PC nonsense...
OG, we have no reason to think that it does....only an alleged story......
Perhaps, but the non-denial from the vicar encourages us to think it is true.

He is not a priest, he is a vicar.

As for your rather rude comment about a few old men getting their knickers in a twist, I though that you came from a long line of servicemen who have given their all for this country.

Are they also old men, possibly members of the Royal British Legion who occasionally get their knickers in a twist over such things?

If it isn't true I can't imagine the vice chairman of the Royal British Legion club would have been happy to pose for that picture.
aog, vicars are priests.
AOG...all CofE and CinW Vicars are first and foremost Priests, and some (most) go on to be Vicars.
