he's 66, and who would want to spend much more time dealing with Brits who can't even agree among themselves what they want?
Some might say he's typical of the French, quick to abandon a cause when things get difficult, away in a huff with cash falling from every pocket and no regrets, only bitterness and resentment for his own inability.
All he had to deal with was those across the table, and he couldn't even do that.

jno; //who would want to spend much more time dealing with Brits who can't even agree among themselves what they want?//

I think there's a lesson for all ABers there ;0)
He will be 68 when he retires. He will have a nice pension, the UK will have left th EU, his job will be done, and he will no longer need to see David Davies’ gloomy face everyday.
//Brits who can't even agree among themselves what they want? //

Last time I looked we were a democracy not a dictatorhip of clones.

He plans to retire AFTER the UK have left in 2019.
He has clearly been booted out, probably by Obergruppenführer Merkle.

I think David Davis face is anything but gloomy. He always seems to have a smile on his face when I see him!!

I shall find the link but Donald Tusk has been spouting, off again.

We are only divided because we are a democracy and not everyone agrees on everything.

Also it should be noted that Barnier is staying to screw every last € out of us but won't be around for finalising trade. Or something like that.

Perhaps he and Junker are mules. They come in first and play hard Ball Ind the hope we will roll over and beg for scraps. When that doesn't happen they send in the second wave to 'soften' and give a little. That little of course will be so tiny it will be insignificant ala Cameron. But we will all be so overjoyed the first two have gone we will just say yes yes yes to get it over with.
Barnier is a Bureaucrat and knows nothing about Trade. The EU will appoint someone with knowledge of Trading, and presumably the UK will do the same. Davis has no experience of Trade talks and will not be in charge of those negotiations. He too will be out after Spring 2019.

"Mr Barnier warned that no withdrawal agreement would have disastrous consequences including British planes being unable to gain authorisation to take off and land at European airports." !!!

You wouldn't believe it would you? He is as much a failure as a negotiator, as he is as a politician, he won't last until 2019, the skids are already under him from the direction of Berlin.
If our planes are not allowed to land then tourism will dry up.

Who will be the net looser there?

Not us, we will just find somewhere else to go.
Cassa, please tell me you don't believe this twaddle?
// Europe’s biggest budget airline has warned it could move its planes out of the UK if no post-Brexit aviation deal is reached by next year.

Ryanair has almost 90 aircraft based at British airports, and flies them to dozens of European destinations under the EU “Open Skies” agreement.

Announcing its first quarter results, the Irish airline warned: “There may not be sufficient time, or goodwill on both sides, to negotiate a timely replacement bilateral.

“If we do not have certainty about the legal basis for the operation of flights between the UK and the EU by autumn 2018, we may be forced to cancel flights and move some, or all, of our UK based aircraft to Continental Europe from April ’19 onwards.” //

But David Davis is working on the best deal for Britain, so everything will be alright.
This talk about landing rights works two ways.If we can't land at European airports they can't land at UK airports.Never happen.

The reason Ryanair is downsizing its operation and Monarch has folded have nothing to do with Brexit. Too many flights and not enough bums on seats.
"He plans to retire AFTER the UK have left in 2019."
And chances are, in all that time, he will still not even managed to deal with was those across the table.

please remove superfluous "was"
