Should this teacher really be in jail? Is she a danger to society? If she had been high on drugs and stabbed her teenage lover, she would have walked free.

a zero-hours job with Amazon should be punishment enough for anyone, even Jack the Ripper.
Seems to be a fair punishment to me. It should be a deterrent to others.

A fair punishment...?
As a teacher she was well aware of the law and the age of the boy. She made a conscious decision to break the law and should accept the consequences
Dreadful breach of trust, she has also ruined her own career.

// If she had been high on drugs and stabbed her teenage lover, she would have walked free. //

Who told you that?
She deserves some sort of punishment...the shame of having her face and misconduct plastered all over the papers for all to see, and seeing her career prospects go down the pan might be enough in the eyes of some.
I'm jealous of the boy.
Just-Jade

It seems a fair punishment.

Had she not received a custodial sentence, you could be sure that some would compare it to the case of Jeremy Forrest (although his case was compounded by the fact that he ran away with the girl in question).

I think Just-Jade is comparing this case with the one of the Oxford student who did not get a jail term after stabbing her date whilst high on drugs a couple of weeks ago.

Once again, such cases highlight the differences between chaps and chapesses.....

She deserves to have the book thrown at her and be subject to exactly the same punishment as men who have found themselves in this position.

But, for some reason, it all gets treated as a bit of a 'larf' in some quarters with many men 'envying' the teenaged boy in question....
I see, not comparing like with like then if that's where the OP was going.
At 15 I dreamed of situations like this...as most boys of that age would. However now he has been introduced to the experience at such a young age with an adult woman, it will make relationships with girls of his age difficult. He will want more of the same thing so I am not sure if envy or lucky are the right words.

The girl he loves has been taken away from him, he probably feels suicidal, but both of them must be punished as they're not from wealthy and privileged backgrounds.

-- answer removed --
Good grief.
You must be pretty sure the boy's father won't read that comment, Piggynose.
Question Author
Good grief indeed. The law should be for all, not the privileged few.

I would love to know if someone who could type that is either a parent or a teacher.

Worrying really.
Stick to the case in your OP JJ, stop mucking about.
Just-Jude - // The girl he loves has been taken away from him, he probably feels suicidal, but both of them must be punished as they're not from wealthy and privileged backgrounds. //

The woman (she is not a girl) has been 'taken away from him' because she has broken the law, and that is the appropriate punishment for the crime of which she has been convicted.

The boy has not been 'punished' - the loss of his relationship is the effect of embarking on an illegal relationship with a woman breaking the law.

Their economic status is of no consequence whatsoever in the case.
