When I was small they were known as tinkers, riding around in horse-drawn caravans. When they were spotted neighbours would go from door to door shouting, "Lock all your doors, the tinkers are coming!"

Hope you and all the residents get some peace back.
great but why did it take a week of misery first?
The legal process sadly is not a snap finger affair in these cases.
trespassing is a criminal offence, if it was you or I our feet wouldn't touch, why are these vermin exempt?
The Police should start confiscating their ill-gotten gains. I bet the majority of them don't have driving licences.
// The legal process sadly is not a snap finger affair in these cases. //

It would be if the land was owned by the local mob boss mamya, know what I mean?
Because the Police are scared of them. They are a notoriously nasty breed and they hunt in packs.
I'm not saying the process is just or fair, simply answered the question why it grinds slow.

I'm all for sending the boys round on certain occasions and leaving the police to do other things - and have done so.
stop it withj all this scared of them BS, no one is scared of them.
TTT, whether it's unpalatable to you or not, people are scared of Gypos. They are animals.
No Mercy - // Because the Police are scared of them.//

It appears you may be confusing 'fear' with due legal process.

It does take time, but that is not because any fear is involved in lengthening the process.
They usually invade common land, such as parks and recreation grounds own by local authorities Friday afternoon as they know nothing can be even started until Monday.

After that they have until emergency eviction notices from the courts.

However if they invade private land they can be made to leave by the police within 24 hours if the home owner (with police in attendance) tells them they have to go. Never, ever, regardless of what sob story they give allow even one night to leave. Once permission to stay, however short that time is, is permission.

Well that is what we were told and did when they invaded the local community centre I was a trustee at.
Trespass is NOT a criminal offence - it's a civil offence and tales injunctions etc to get them to move. It's not a quick process and cleaning up their mess is not cheap, often involving removal of human waste as well as the junk they leave behind.
no they are not. Plod could get suited up and move them on. They don't have to fight them hand to hand but judging by a gypsy fight someone posted the other day it wouldn't matter if they did. They spend 10 minutes not hitting each other and fall into a ditch. I'm sick of pussy footing around this scum with whimpering apologists telling me how tough they are. If they are so tough we go in accordingly end of.
when will the government put an end to this charade
I'm not confused in the least, Andy, but thanks for your concern.

Last year they set up residence on the green behind my house, broke into the local school and did over a couple of the local pubs, but the Police did *** all, despite plenty of eye witnesses seeing these crimes taking place.
TTT - yes they are. I've witnessed it first hand.
bhg it was changed to a criminal offence last year.
what you saw a bare knuckle fight? Big deal no good against riot gear and batons.
TTT the Police have to follow due process, I'm sure they'd rather get rid sharpish.

Should things be tightened up in this regard - Yes.

Who has apologised in a whimpering manner for them?

Think before you reply please.
