OTT
It's downright stupid and insulting to 16 year olds that probably have a better grip on Asian names than most adults!
Why on earth would 16 year olds have a better grip on Asian names than most adults?
hell in a hand cart!
All the news & story's about Racism is pathetic theses days, its never out of the news, and the more its brought to our attention, the more it spreads.

So as far as I am concerned, I dont give two hoots, as long as my lovely Town, is not overrun with Immigrants!
too many folks are much too too much "right on PC " like walking on eggshells at times
How pathetic?

Deplorable, distressful, grievous, lamentable, unfortunate, woeful, discomforting, discomposing, disquieting, distressing, disturbing, perturbing; affecting, moving, poignant, touching; discouraging, disheartening, dispiriting.

Any sixteen-year-olds should feel free to Google the above, unless they get bored with too much information, as they do. :)
you missed discombobulated !
//Why on earth would 16 year olds have a better grip on Asian names than most adults//

Yes I am sure the majority of 16 year olds, Asian or Caucasian, know all the various names for certain Gods.

/// The Buddhist bodhisattva of mercy is known as Avalokitesvara in India, Guanyin in China, Kwanum in Korea and Kannon in Japan.” ///

AOG, what on earth has Gods got to do with Talbot's post at 15,00.His post was referring to names i general.IMO

Thank you Danny that was my thinking!

My post had nothing to do with -Talbot-'s post but your 15:07 post.

Didn't you read the article?

/// We aim to be understandable by 16 year olds. Sometimes Asian names can be confusing, so we have to be careful about using too many.” ///

Asian names of gods, for example, any clearer?
The museum has a fair point. Take a look at this list of Sri Lankan cricketers.

The museum is perfectly correct. Many Asian names are ridiculously convoluted. The capital of the southern Indian state of Kerala is Thiruvananthapuram. Almost everybody, including most of the Keralans refer to it as Trivandrum. Perfectly sensible abbreviation of a ridiculously long name. Nothing racist about it at all.
Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch. Is shortened to Llanfair
