Thanks Minty !
i have just managed to spoil by error my postal vote, my thinking is way off at the moment, so that's one vote that won't count, blast it.
I noted at the recent local elections that OH and I walked in, weren't asked for our polling cards just our name and address. We could have been anybody, seemed very open to abuse IMO.

It does say on the Poll Card.
"You do not need to take this card with you in order to vote"
I know, it's just we could have sent anybody in our place - and I'm sure there is lots of room for abuse with postal voting.
Well but your details are ticked off the list. If someone else goes and pretends to be you they can’t.
You don't need to provide any proof of ID in Great Britain but photo ID from an approved list is required in Ulster.
woofgang, they can't what?
IMO they ought to require the polling card. (Even though the extent of any corruption must be limited with the present system.)
Woofgang, if someone went in before you and pretended to be you, presumably you wouldn't have your vote.
Postal voting should be restricted to those physically incapable of getting to the polling station.
I'm not saying anyone would pretend to be me without my wishes I'm saying I could have sent anyone up (from anywhere) just give my name and vote for who you want. Cuts out the need for a proxy vote.
"In certain circumstances (eg, if a mark on the register suggests that that elector has already voted), this will not be an ordinary ballot paper. Rather, it will be a pink “tendered” ballot paper. This is not put in the ballot box but, instead, is endorsed by the presiding officer and placed in a separate official envelope."

No doubt there would be an investigation and the ballot paper used by the imposter would be obtained and excluded from the count if appropriate.
Be identified as you after you've already voted.
Remember, vote early, vote often.
Cloverjo, they would have to know who I was, including address and gender and know I hadn’t voted.
Naomi "Postal voting should be restricted to those physically incapable of getting to the polling station.”

why?
Because postal voting is more widely open to abuse.
I would have thought it was less open. It comes to me through the post in a plain envelope and goes back through the post.
It goes to other people the same way I presume, but that's no guarantee that they will be the people completing the form.
