That's what your article is suggesting, yes.
i thought that North Korea was such a authoritarian state that no on gets out, let alone swarms of people.

emmie

They wouldn't be isolated for much longer if the Yanks were to move in.
The only thing stopping them is China. If China were to give the nod the yanks would be in tomorrow.
i don't like the sound of this at all, smacks too much of Dr Strangelove.
The US is NOT going to attack North Korea.
Why would they do that??
I suspect Trump's strategy, if there is one, is to spook the Chinese into action in putting pressure on the regime to reign in its nuclear programme.
Why does N Korea have a nuclear programme? Because they fear a US invasion. So guess what effect this sabre-rattling is going to have on Mr Kim? Yep, you've guessed it: press on pronto with said nuclear programme. The only way ultimately to counter that is a deal with Pyongyang: aid for no nukes.
Nice to see Mr Putin showing his caring side though :-)
If I was them I would do the same thing.

The last thing you need are a load of deranged fanatics marauding freely around your country.

Hang on a minute .....
Ich, I think they have a nuclear program because fat boy is a deranged megalomaniac. The US is the excuse.
Jack; //If China were to give the nod the yanks would be in tomorrow.//

Nope, - no one goes into a country which has nukes. The fat boy has seen what happened to other dictators; Saddam and Gaddafi, and he wants to survive, which he probably will.
Incorrect ymb. Mr Kim is a fat little horror who oppresses his people but from his point of view having nuclear weapons is, in his eyes, a way of insuring the US won't invade and take his toys away.
He probably has just about enough nasties to cause a bit of a mess as it is. But invading the DPRK will only occur if its deemed the least of evils. And even then it's more likely to be some sort of strike to nobble his nuclear arsenal, if possible. But anything else would just destabilise the entire region, to what end? Just to remove Mr Kim? We only care about him because he might threaten us, which brings us back to the reason why he is going nuclear in the first place. Otherwise he is free to do as he pleases.
"Incorrect" ?

Really? You know Mr Un personally then do you?

The silly thing is his "nukes" are pretty puny and don't seem to have much prospect of being operational for many years. Even most of his missile tests don;t seem to work, allegedly because the Americans have bugges their systems. Whether they have or not, it's that sort of tactic which is likely to be the most effective at keeping him in his box, rather than any actual violence.
may i ask if its not too dim a question, who gave him the nuclear capability in the first place, as others have said the country has no industry? so did the west supply him with weapons and if so why?

Ii have not had the pleasure, and maybe he is as mad as a hatter, but you don't have to be a top international strategist to see that, as I say, from his point of view, nukes keep him safe. So in that respect one can follow his reasoning.
"who gave him the nuclear capability in the first place, as others have said the country has no industry? so did the west supply him with weapons and if so why? "

The Soviet Union helped, or actually build, their nuclear research centre many years ago. I'd say therefore that country was a major player, and possibly Pakistan, maybe even Libya?
China too, who knows?
One reason they are poor is because so much money goes into developing nuclear, chemical, biological and conventional weaponry but I think the country is pretty industrialised.
industrialised in making weapons you mean..
they are such a closed shop that's its hard to get concrete evidence of their industrialisation, and who supply's what, it seems China does by and large and Pakistan.
emmie; I think the original technology came from the former USSR. Before the collapse of communism there were lots of North Koreans in the former East Germany.
khandro
thank you, that makes simple sense.
No there's industry aside from military industrial. It's the poor relation tho
