Mr Corbyn may well be sincere in his aim, unfortunately though, Labour need a master bricklayer and JC's only a hod carrier.

Naomi, that's not exactly a clamouring of people saying 'me, me , me'. There should be at least half a dozen 'wannabes' in any political party vying for the top job. Miliband's tenuous hint at a return to U.K. Politics only serves to demonstrate Labour's farcical state.

He has been elected, overwhelmingly, twice as Labour Leader.
If there was to be a third contest, and he stood again, he would win again. He represents what is different about the Labour Party, at a time when everybody keeps telling us that there is no real difference between the serious Parties.

I am not denying that Labour doesn't have problems in the immediate future, but turning the Party into some kind of Tory-lite is not the answer.

I've no doubt he'd win again. That is the whole crux of Naomi's thread and particularly my 08:30 post.

That was exactly my thought. It's not clear what job he means (assuming he doesn't mean that!). It isn't as if any sort of meaningful work is already in progress, that anyone without his tinted spectacles can see.
I fear it will take Labour one or maybe two leaders to undo the damage wrought by his interregnum, by which time who knows how the political land wil lie.

I suspect Corbyn wouldn't win again, actually, but it's probably not a good idea for the party to go through all that, yet again, so soon. Much better for him to walk away, as he will have to.
I am appalled at certain union leaders putting him "on message": they have aided and abetted his rise to the leadership at every turn, and are just as culpable for the party's poor showing as he is.

Zacs....Until a charismatic figure, another Blair perhaps, comes along. this is the Labour Party, red in tooth and claw. But they still have a popular presence in Britain, as can be seen by their victory in Stoke.

The difficulty is, where do voters go, who will never bring themselves ever to vote Tory ?

The Liberals used to be able to help out there, but they really don't matter any more. The Greens are just not relevant.

As for UKIP, its impossible to envisage a future when they will ever be in a position to form HM's Loyal Opposition. As we have seen on numerous occasions over the years, UKIP sometimes enthuses, but rarely persuades.

So, Labour is here to stay. We have been in this position before, and the Party split. I can't see that happening again now, at least not yet.

I just don't see the problem here....J. Corbyn has been elected twice to take the Labour Party even further to the left as they, the Labour Party feel that this will make them more popular with the electorate.
They may be right, as only a General Election will answer that question and he should be given the chance to lead his Party into battle with a Left of centre mandate.

Morning Sqad....you are right of course. South of Hadrian's Wall, Labour is the only home for the left wing vote.

Even if they don't win in 2020, the Tories will eventually run out of steam, like they always do, and like they did in the mid to late 90's. When that happens, Labour will be the only game in Town !

Labour have to accept they are not the party of the future, a good clear out is required, David Milliband would be a good starting point .

mikey says the the Tories will run out of steam and be replaced by labour. A party that has not only run out of steam, their fire is not even lit. They can't even replace an ineffectual leader let alone the Tories.

Mikey dreams of 1997, Saint Tony, D. ream, TCOGB etc but he always denies the inescapable fact that prior to the good saint Labour only ever won a single term at a time and that the only way they won in 1997 was by slaughtering their own sacred cows and impersonating the Tories.
