Olympic awards should only be given after they retire, the gong around their neck is what matters - unless there has been exceptional performance as in Murray, Bradley Wiggens or Chris Hoy.

For the record (i) one has to wait 5 years from a CBE to be up for a Sir/Dame

For the record (ii) why has Jon Surtees never been knighted for being world champion at both F1 and bikes and for all his massive charity work?
