Both. It’s called diplomacy. As mayor of London Boris defended his city – and then said that now Trump has been elected we must forge a good political relationship with his administration. Of course we must. What else would you expect him to say - or us to do? Trump has been an object of ridicule throughout his campaign because few expected him to emerge as, arguably, the most powerful politician on earth. Boris is not the first to employ a little essential diplomacy and he won’t be the last.

It is something Corbyn doesnt get so I am not surprised you dont get it either. as Naomi says it is diplomacy, you cant let personal feelings get in the way of doing things for the masses. so in answer to your question Both.

Many who concentrated on Trump's weaknesses (of which there are many to select) prior to him becoming president elect are now going to try to find the silver linings. Especially Foreign Secretaries. One has to make the best of situations as they arise not stay on one's high horse sticking to some plan that anticipated something different.

Personally I consider that an overused and often inappropriate label. You can't be a good diplomat without knowing boundaries and looking for what achieves best for your country, and/or the world in general.

All the mainstream politicians under estimated Trump, and Boris is not the only one having to do some back tracking.
Farage on the other hand, went over there and actively campaigned with and for Trump. I wonder how that favour will be repaid?
