The Brexit referendum produced, and is still producing, a plethora of dire warnings of disasters about to befall us. With, among other things, the prospect of economic meltdown, a deficit of trading agreements, and the perceived likelihood of Scotland tearing itself from the rest of us, we could be forgiven for thinking the country is heading for little short of Armageddon - in fact the prospect of World War III has been mentioned. It's apparent that many who elected to remain in the EU are eager for migrants to come here, but considering the bleak future this country is allegedly facing, is their altruism grossly misplaced? Wouldn't it be far kinder to leave these vulnerable people where they are - safe and secure in the all-embracing comfort of the bosom of Europe?

I'm not sure many people are eager for migrants to come here but certainly some businesses are eager for migrants to come here so they fill vacancies. Are you talking about all migrants or just those of a certain culture/those ewaiting in Calsis? In 20 years time there will be some many pensioners and so few people working to pay their pensions that we might wish we had allowed more young migrants in

The heading is clear. I'm talking about the children of Calais - you know, the ones we are currently shipping in.

Of course their altruism is grossly misplaced. Anyone who listened to their head' instead of just "thinking with their heart", can see that.

But that's not because things are dire here; that is just perpetuating the remainers myths & lies.

It's because folk should not be able to jump on the bandwagon whenever there is a world disaster (man made or natural) and use it to try to force other nations to allow them entry, in order to improve their personal economic improvement aims at the detriment of the host nation.

Some unethical businesses are eager for migrants to come here so they fill vacancies because they are not prepared to act within the local/national market and allow it to set conditions and wages; but prefer to do the dirty on the taxpayer by shortcutting the market with immigrant low wage labour thus keeping native citizens unemployed and on welfare, paid bythe taxpayer, whist the job is underpaid (and might even attract more welfare to top it up, again from the taxpayer).

Allowing it to happen is not the way to deal with it. Minimum wage for a full time job should never be so low as the employee needs to get welfare on top; and there should be clear indication of conditions and wages being reasonable, and long attempts at getting native employees first, before being allowed to apply for immigrants to enter and take up job positions here.

The bottom line is, Europe, whether mainland or the UK, is a more attractive proposition for people from third world countries. If it wasn't, we'd all be heading there instead :-)
