if there were a move to make the award 100% inclusive, what would you call it?

note this is about recasting an honour - if you want to debate abolition of honours or monarchy, START A NEW THREAD.

If he doesn't want it he doesn't have to accept it.
Why should we change anything?

I don't really support all these honours but could the MBE be rechristened as a MBC, Member of the British Commonwealth ?
I wouldn't consider changing it. If accepting it is against his values, fine. He doesn't have to accept it.
Somebody will be along shortly to show you the error of your colonialist ways, Mikey. :)
The PCK award - politically correct kowtowing
On a serious note the commonwealth is a defined list of specific countries only isn't it?

///The Commonwealth of Nations, or the Commonwealth, is an intergovernmental organisation of 53 member states that were mostly territories of the former British Empire///.

what does 100% inclusive mean in this context ?

everyone wants one?
everyone gets one ?
100% approve of 100% of nominations

wouldnt it be better just to scrap the whole thing ?
( Nooooooo that last bit was just because Mushie didnt want the usual suspects making their usual comments on the usual themes. sorry M it is a bit slow on AB this am)
I might have got this wrong, but the current MBE can be awarded to any British or Commonwealth citizen....have a got that right ?

If that is the case, then I can't see any reason why someone would refuse an MBE ( or MBC ) for the reasons that Mr Gayle as given.
Leave it as it is, nobody is obliged to accept it.

Mikey, see wiki quote @ 0831
I do know what to call it sorry
we could start a salon des refuses - the names ! the names ! rather than getting the actual people to contribute on AB
those who refuse - or return their MBEs

those four loveable scouse mop heads [the beatles] returned theirs
evelyn waugh turned down a CBE as he thought he deserved a knighthood

and it cant be bad for your honours career - look how Sir Paul turned out - he got a sir-ship....

and Britney Spears ( mad leddy who shaved her head on u-tube in case DM readers dont know ) she ended up as Lady Gaga didnt she ?
In this politically correct age any change will annoy somebody so leave it as it is. Perhaps people who don't accept the medal could be allowed to have RAMBO after their name, refused a medal, became outraged.
Peter....have you started on the juice already?
Perhaps time to change 'Empire' to 'Commonwealth' . As said the British 'Empire' no longer exists but the 'Commonwealth' does.
Hi umm
no just revving up to go out and see the new dog ( chocco lab)
someone else's not mine - mine is at my feet wondering if it is too cold to go out and pee

Mikey - foreign honours and zair names are a bit fraught
Would president hollande give the legion d'honneur ( classe IV) to someone who would call it legion de honte ?
Sovereign's permission ( oops name change there ) Queen's permission is required for some foreign honours at least. Did Reek Jolly get permission to wear his Argentinian medal? He was the only one to get a medal from both sides in the Falklands as a Doctor

Nelson used to wear the Sultan of Turkeys crescent moon ( his vanity was well known ) without George's permission. and was the last to wear his bicorn crossways like a ship in sail rather than nose-to-spine

what to call the MBE instead - arriss lickers gong ?
perhaps they wouldnt queue up for one .....

Eddie, don't you you think that as most of the Commonwealth were former territories of the British Empire it still may be offensive to some?
obviously not to Angola ( odious name odious organisation )
they applied to join....

and Zimbabwe -are they in or out ? We could rename that Imperium Interruptus....
pretentious J Arthur, withdraw the honour. Why do we give honours to morons like this anyway?
