They are great figures AOG but what do they have to do with this instance of a man who appears to have been shot cause his car stalled?

You only see that type of things in the movies, if you have had any firearms training, which obviously you haven't, one is taught to aim your fire at your targets largest body mass, especially if one is using a hand held weapon.

For your first stat to be meaningful we'd also need to know how much bigger the white population is than the black population.

For the second statistic you haven't mentioned the white on white statistics, although maybe that's in the article.

Policing is indeed very tough, and a matter of life and death for officers, but officers who get twitchy when holding a gun and see a black man are dangerous and maybe need counselling/help

He was shot because the police thought he may have been reaching for a gun. If he had done what he was told he wouldn't have got shot.

Hmmm...that magical invisible gun that floats in the air just out of reach of someone with their hands up.

I completely understand when police are faced with what they think is a potentially dangerous individual, but surely this pastor is along the same lines as the black psychologist who was lying on the ground with his hands outstretched saying "Please don't shoot me"...shortly before being shot.

Seriously...the fella was out in a parking lot trying to calm down a mental patient!

The problem as I see it (proved by some of the responses here) is that it matters not what black people in the US do - no matter whether they are law-abiding professionals who act in accordance with police instructions, some will justify their execution based on the fact that they are black.

That is really quite disturbing.

They are concerning but not really a surprise in that they confirm that offending (or being caught) rates are quite a lot higher for blacks than for white.
But they are not relevant to this case and do not justify shooting a black man on the grounds that there is a one in 100 chance he is a killer rather than the perhaps 1 in 150 chance if he was white

I'd pay good money to see AOG state...just once...support of black people in situations like this. His attempts at portraying another view point comes across as a deeply ingrained view and a knee jerk reaction.

I guess that's the same sort of statistic as AOG came up with- whites significantly outnumber blacks so if the killing were done on a proportionate basis then yes, you'd expect a lot more whites than blacks. Apologies if your link is different to that

As disturbing as the over-representation of ex-servicemen incarcerated in the US and UK.

What we need to do is look at the reasons behind these figures, rather than reaching any conclusions based on the headline figures. We need to ask, "Why is there an over-representation", rather than using the figure to prove something that is arguably unsupportable.
