Right now we have workers digging up our roads of this cul-de-sac on behalf of Virgin Media.

Can anybody tell me exactly what they are doing - is it for new customers who use internet/phone or what. Thanks

Making a b&lls of it I must say - whole road is blocked up with JCBs - hope there isn't a fire for Fire Brigade to get through.

I assume that they're 'cabling' your street so that Virgin Media's TV and broadband services will become available to local residents.
make them a cup of tea and ask them .

I want no "truck" with them as I can actually feel my house vibrating.
As Buenchico suggests - it is probably underground cabling for internet and TV connections.

Chris - there are about maybe 13 cul-de-sacs - so for instance is there are no virgin users in my cul-de-sac - do they need to lay cables for the other 12.

Conne make a cup of tea, get cumfy and watch the boys at work :-)

the road has already been butchered with Phoenix Gas etc. The road is like a train line of various tarmacs.
They are doing what they are employed to do!
Question Author
Ummmm I know that - but because we don't have kerbs our houses are too near the roads.
I thought you had a drive?
Question Author
drive is at the side of house -

house, tiny garden, road,
>>> Chris - there are about maybe 13 cul-de-sacs - so for instance is there are no virgin users in my cul-de-sac - do they need to lay cables for the other 12

Their licence to operate (which the Government have sold to them for a vast amount of money) actually requires them to ensure that the service is made available to all homes, so they MUST lay cables in your street even if every house is owned by a religious sect which prohibits its members from watching TV or using the internet (because the service must be ready-and-waiting for someone different who might move in at a later date).

thanks for that enlightenment Chris
I don't even have a front garden and road workers don't make my house vibrate.
Just because you don't want it the occupants of the future might. I remember when cable was first introduced in London - they came round selling it door to door taking the time and explaining it all. - Brilliant

I wish I could have cable where I live now but they don't do the country.
I remember Telewest. Whatever happened to them?
