Why do our dignitaries (i.e Prince William's Mrs this week) pander to foreign countries when they visit them by wearing clothes befitting to that country?

I don't ever see foreign leaders wearing jeans and trainers when they visit the UK

The only Bowler I recall seeing in the last 50 years or so was on Acker Bilks head Eddie !
I see no problem adhering to the local dress code/fashion. It's what puts us above others in the world who have no respect for others. Like the swarms of immigrants in this country who wont speak our language, wont dress like us and in some cases wish death on us.
Its perhaps because they wish to show respect to the countries in which they are guests ?
Emeritus....you forgot Orange Men !

Maybe if Jeremy Corbyn becomes PM they'll all turn up looking scruffy in odd jacket and trousers wit no tie.

You don't see the British dignitaries greeting them wearing jeans and trainers either.

I don't see anything wrong in Kate wearing Indian style clothes - I've done it myself at times. It's a friendly gesture.
We agree on this one Naomi !

I think Indian dress on ladies looks very nice and flattering.
If we visit Australia do we have to wear flip flops and a hat with corks dangling off it oz?
Togo...I think thats going too far....a can of Fosters glued to your hand is sufficient !
We've been a pandering country for quite some time now
Only English people drink Fosters.
Or a bucket on you head with two eye holes, like that Kid Nelly.
1ozzy...I bow to your superior knowledge !

What brand of beer would be suitable for my tongue in cheek comment then ?

/// It's called decorum, manners and diplomacy, joeluke. You wouldn't understand...... ///

Oh so what you appear to be saying is that foreign leaders do not possess this decorum, manners and diplomacy?

QpQ: "It's the reason our royal family is respected worldwide. " - quite right.

The press described the mode of dress she wore when meeting the street urchin children as 'Dressing Down' now that is patronising if nothing more.
