I agree with the poster.

Just watch Body&Soul in AB and note the cry for "Go to A&E immediately" for the slightest of problems.

However..........I must sympathise with the patients of an NHS system that gives them only intermittent recourse to a GP.
It's a ridiculous suggestion. Yet another designed to discourage folk who need a service from using it in case it isn't necessary.

A&E has always been the resort when the GP surgery is closed and one is worried about one's health. If the system don't want them going there they should set up a 24/7 drop in centre next door to A&E. No one wants abuse but it's not right to push the expert medical decision onto the person with a problem before they turn up.
It's a case of agreeing with the message, but not the medium.

It does show that even individuals who are by definition in the upper levels of intelligence in society, are not immune from behaving like complete numpties when given a platform to communicate with complete strangers.
I once worked as a doctor's receptionist in a place which shall remain nameless. We used to have a woman patient who turned up almost every day to tell the doctor she hadn't "been" that morning. Even if she had "been" but "not properly". And she expected a prescription every day.
We had another patient, a man, who came to tell the doctor he hadn't washed his hair for 2 years. I have often wondered what he thought the doc was going to do about it.

How many layers of medical advice do you need?
NHS phone 111
Walk in centres.
On call GP advice
A&E
and dare u say it....AB.

All very costly with questionable reliability.

I used to play football with a friend who would go to A&E after the game for the slightest twist etc...it became a standing joke if he was late to the pub after the game..."must be busy in A&E" !

A woman was adamant she was going to sue my brother once, because he said it was just a bruise on her arm, its not worth worrying about it, and to go home and refused her any further treatment...
I am sure that he has a point about misuse of A and E.....but is this called for?
"I’m sure ADHD is merely a polite term for a child who is just a little sh**.”
We had a bloke on our relief who was always "injuring himself on duty". He insisted the Garage Sergeant filled out the appropriate IOJ report and he then took himself off to the local A&E up the road to be checked out . His name was Francis so he earned the nickname "Frankie goes to Hospital".
I read the article this morning and thought hmmm. You can't have those views chum and work in the NHS. Then I thought why would the Mail flag it up? Do you suppose they have other facaes book, or witter blogs with views of the opposite persuasion, and are just clearing the decks for a broadside in response to his predicted castigation. I do hope so.
If they starting charging for visits to GP's and A&E departments, the time wasters an hypochondriacs would soon disappear.

for a lot of cases it is..
Sounds like he is at the end of his tether. It must be very frustrating to have to deal with time-wasters knowing the service is under pressure.
