Lucky people.
I am sure the apologist will be along shortly to state how do you know they a Muslims?

Stating:

/// Nobody has yet claimed responsibility for the suspicious device. ///
That's not a clock - it's a bomb
I began by assuming it was an 'inside job', similar to the recent bomb that blew a plane from Sharm to smithereens, but on reading the link it seems two passengers are being held. How on earth did they manage to smuggle it on board?
It was probably made by some American teenager.
false alarm; stop panicking at the back there

How do you know that? One can see a clock, but one does not know that it is a bomb until the packages around the clock are examined by experts and then after a controlled explosion is carried out by experts.
False alarm or not, I'd still like to know how they got it through security.
It was in fact a clock after all.
It's a clock! That's a relief.

"...He said the device had had no explosives, it would not have been detected during pre-flight security checks in Mauritius, and passengers and crew had not been at risk."
//it would not have been detected during pre-flight security checks in Mauritius//

Why not? It must have gone on in hand luggage.

Still could of been an inside job. I obviously don't know what security is like but I imagine any airport catering/cleaning/fuel service vehicle can drive back and forth from landside to airside with the unarmed device on board. Carried and deposited on plane by airport worker and two accomplice/passengers board the flight to activate the device in mid air.Just to make certain. Possible delays etc.

Early days yet. I await the CIA/MOSSAD/ GUIDO FAWKES connection to be trotted out any time soon.

Perhaps some good might come of it?
It was a cardboard box, paper and a kitchen timer, probably assembled in the toilet. All of those things are allowed in the hand luggage.
Svejk, one can only hope. A false alarm this time ....
You wouldn't be questioned over a kitchen timer?
Really?
Really. No different to a clockwork egg timer

I remember when President Mitterand came over on a State visit some years ago. A reception was to be held in the garden of the French Ambassadeurs residence in Kensington Palace Gardens. A large marquee had been erected to house the guests.
The President's head of security brought into the UK some PE and earlier in the day he placed a small piece of it in the tent to test British Security!
Just before the reception started (Literally the final minutes for good reason) a bomb sniffing dog team did a search and found the harmless explosive. (No Det) It caused a major hushed up row as the sniffer dog's were rendered inoperative for the next few weeks. Their sense of scent had been compromised by this idiot's actions. The Security Head was sent back to France the next day and a new one hastily replaced him.
No good came of that little experiment and I expect the Champagne lost it's chill as a result.
