A group called Veterans For Peace have thrown down their war medals outside Downing Street.

Is this is powerful message to send or is it ineffectual?

Well, it ain't sewing lips together. Each to their own though.
Hardly a powerful message when only four people are involved.
I'm just glad that Ben Griffin didn't have my back when on patrol, but then you will always get the odd one who turns into an ideologist I guess. ...

As Danny says, 4 hardly sends out a 'powerful' message.
He's of course absolutely right about the disastrous interventions of Iraq and Libya, but we are where we are, and we can't put the toothpaste back in the tube.
Is doing nothing really an option? What does he suggest?
I have recently passed on my father's RAF, WWII, medals to my grandson, I wonder what would have happened if his generation hadn't fought and simply done nothing. Chamberlain's negotiation didn't work then, and it won't work with ISIS now.
I wonder what medals they had?
Demonstrate by all means but its pointless to throw away things he 'once treasured'. What for?
If that is what they feel the need to do in order to demonstrate how they feel, then fine. Vetrans have as much right to get it wrong as anyone.
As a message it is meaningless and pointless.

But if it makes them feel better then I have no issues with it.
Strange that these former sevicemen swore an oath to serve Queen and Country yet they throw the medals that the Queen had awarded them back in her face. She had no say with regards to the bombing of Syria so I feel it is rather a rude and empty gesture to our Monarchy. Their medal. Their choice. :-(
Veterans for peace? Isn't that a bit like saying Vegetarians for Beef?
Personally, I think they are misguided.
