There was a media feeding frenzy last week about this. And quite a lot of chat on here. Now it looks as though it may well have been a 20 year old story.

Well well ... thanks for that SeaJay - fascinating.
That's OK then...
20 years ago or 20 minutes it still beggars belief that any parent would want their child to die (possibly frightened and watching people do nothing) than be saved.

I hope that man has lived with the torment of knowing he effectively killed his daughter with no possible excuse.

I did read the old story and thought it sounded too familiar.
I guess the story has become a a urban myth that builds and updates on the original true story.
all standard stuff from the R.O.P. 20 years ago or yesterday, makes no difference.

I encourage anyone with an interest in how our news is collated and delivered give this book a read.

It answers the question as to why any credible newspaper would serve us something like this, and why we gobble it up.

Why the hell wasn't this picked up?

20 years or 20 minutes makes a big difference.

If a national newspaper ran a front page story on a massive fire in Kings Cross station, which happened to be the story from 1987, that would be a scandal, would it not?

Same here.

But we just shrug.
There's no proof this ever happened.
