I don't understand this at all. The Countryside Alliance has been telling us for years that foxes need to be hunting with dogs, as they are a nuisance. I agree that foxes can be a nuisance, although not the bit about hunting with dogs.

But this evidence in the BBC link clearly shows that somebody is rearing fox cubs, for the express reason that they can be hunted.

And its just sheer coincidence that they are being kept 200m away from the hunt kennels ?

So, if they are not being deliberately reared so that they can be hunted, why are they being reared at all ?

I'm no Toff mikey, I was dragged up on a council estate mate, you can't get lower class than me! Yes Flippant comment, there is no reason to breed an animal that porportedly needs to be controlled, I therefore conclude they are indeed for sport and thus we expose what is common knowledge that fox hunting is not solely to control foxes. At this point I want to point...

Ladybirder...I am quite prepared to agree with you. The LACS spokesman said as much in the BBC link.
Retrochic -most country folk these days oppose the hunt. No they don`t.
Mikey -these 'Toffs' employ bouncers traditionally known as 'Huntsmen'. They think nothing of setting a whip on a man woman or child who gets in their way . The hounds barely reach past the age of 8 years old when they are gassed. Hunt horses are run into the ground and sent to sales pumped up with pain killers to walk sound. The followers think its all a jolly holiday gaily cantering over other peoples fields regardless of pregnant and then when a Fox is killed 'by accident' they have something to laugh about down the Pub. Folk who go Foxhunting are cruel sadistic liars and pathetic wannabees. I'm afraid you've got me started now Mikey ;-) -think I will have to have a large glass of Red and retire for the night lol!"
237sj Yes they do - more people who live in the country oppose hunting than those who want the ban lifted. I've just had a letter from the Houses of Parliament, from my MP on the subject, and she is adamant the Fox Hunting bill will never be amended by the Government, too many people oppose it now. The countryside has changed dramatically over the last 25 years.
I've been aware since I was a child that foxes were bred for hunting. There must be truth in it. It's always a shame that when debating fox-hunting it can't be done without reference to toffs. The argument stands up very well on its own without that reference. Those who hunt are from all classes and walks of life - anyone who likes to ride and kill.
I`m not talking about people who live in the country. I`m talking about country people (two different things)
Retrochic - I am thinking you are the former, rather than the latter.
Sadly it's not illegal in Northern Ireland, like a lot of other things in this bizarre country
237SJ -ah! the Country Folk' you mean the Sadistic Individuals who walk around in 'Ratcatcher' and can't shoot straight to save their lives? To me Country Folk are Farmers, Farm Workers, anyone who makes any kind of living of the land, and people who have lived in rural areas all their lives. Not many of these folks go hunting with Dogs. Don't get me wrong -if a fox needs killing i would dispatch one myself with a shot gun but would never kill anything for fun.

237...you can't possibly know that. You would have to go and ask everybody in a hunting locality and count the ones that supported or didn't support the hunt, in order to be sure. And nobody has done that.

But YouGov published a Poll back in January that gave a clear majority against hunting with dogs :::

https://yougov.co.uk/news/2015/01/09/british-people-still-support-fox-hunting-ban/

Mori did the same a few weeks earlier ::

https://www.ipsos-mori.com/researchpublications/researcharchive/3499/Hunting-Poll-2014.aspx

Anyway, all this is academic. Hunting with dogs is now illegal and I hope the Police take this case seriously and investigate the matter.

LOL! If only you knew......born and bred in Canada, with large farming family in the UK. I couldn't be more of an authentic country woman if I tried lol!
"To me, country types are farmers, farm workers and anyone who makes a living off the land" Well you are wrong then. Nice to see that old style stereotypes are alive and well
Question Author
237....if these cubs are not being kept and reared to be let loose at a later date and hunted, what do YOU think they are for ?

What would be your best guess ?
Mikey - I didn`t say they were not being reared. I said that you can`t breed foxes. I would imagine that the cubs have been taken from vixens.

Then we are cross purposes then 237. Mea Culpa. Please accept my apologies !
There has been evidence of people releasing foxes into the wild. I remember my Dad telling me about a farmer on Exmoor who found a fox trying to eat sheep droppings in his barn. A wild fox would never have done that. The farmer reckoned that the fox had been taken from a city (possibly Bristol) and dumped into the countryside. The thing is, town foxes have only learned to scavange. They don`t know how to catch food for themselves. Sad really.
*scavenge*
237 I am born and bred in an area of a very well known hunt.
At 17 years old, I saw a hunt destroy a village front garden and tear a fox apart in front of the children of the house.
The were 5 and 7 years old.
They trashed the garden and fence, traumatised the children and displayed unjustifiable cruelty during the whole episode.
Anyone who wants this vile practice back is sick in the head and I worry for a government that supports it.

I hope Retrochic won't mind me stealing her link from a previous debate on fox hunting. If you want to keep the ban, please go here and sign the petition ::::

https://www.change.org/p/david-cameron-keep-the-ban-on-fox-hunting

We need all the support we can get, now that the Tories are back in power.
Frog - my Grandfather`s family owned all of the land that could be seen from the top of the church tower. That was an awful lot of land. The hunt never went over that land. Landowners do have the right to say "No".
