Clegg has been rude here about both Labour Party and the Tory Party, so just who is he going to go into coalition with next May, if the occasion calls for it ? Who can now doubt that whatever meeting of minds there were between him and dave in 2010, the honeymoon is finally over. I am now beginning to agree with those here on AB that think that this Government won't last until next May, and we may have a constitutional crisis looming.
And this is before dave loses both by-elections today.

there was no meeting of minds; it was a political decision to work together so that both parties would have a share of power. Don't expect politicians to be friends, especially when relationships are unequal. Clegg's doing the sensible thing, backing away from the Tories as the election approaches, so that he's still open to offers from Labour if they do well next time round.
He told Ed Miliband that people would not forget what Labour did to the economy, and he warned David Cameron that he could copy Lib Dem ideas, but would never imitate their values.

jno....I might be wrong here but he doesn't seem to be open to any offers that Labour might make...not judging by his speech yesterday anyway.
Personally I think he realises that Labour may get in without needing his help, and he is just trying to save as many of his MPs seats as he can, in the little time left to him. He really doesn't want to go back to the old days when the Libs had 2-4 seats at Westminster and were a complete irrelevance. He also realises that whatever happens next May, he has not much time left as Leader.

Clegg will just do another of his U-turns depending on which Party he is trying to woo. Comments made in the past are happily ignored by this traitorous man (e.g. "I will never work with Tories", "I will never support student loans") if thought to be to his advantage to do so. Sadly, many gullible people still vote for him - but that's probably because the others are as bad.
I think the libdums will be wiped out in May so he'll do well to keep his seat. I think the election will be close between the 2 main parties, possibly resulting in a minority government. I know what the EC says mikey but I still think that most do not see Ed as PM material so when the time comes they won't trust him. The UKIP threat is there and indeed voters may go for them in by elections but in a general election the Tory UKIP sympathisers will stay faithfull. So I predict no overall majority with the possibility of a LIB/LAB coalition or possibly Tory/UU/UKIP cooperation. Going to be interesting, I think they'll limp on doing very little till May.

No. There won't be many bills to vote on in the next 7 months. If the Conservatives look like they are going to lose a vote they can suspend it and put it in the next Queens speech.

they could table a VONC, simple majority needed then 14 days must elapse without a reversal. Or 2/3 of members can vote for dissolution. Otherwise we go till May. The VONC is feasable but they'd need the Libdums to cooperate and I don't think they would knowing they are going to get a beating, they'll prefer to cling on to some power for a few more months before being in the wilderness for half a century!
