I have this feeling in my chest that won't go away. It's like something is suffocating my heart and I feel as if I have this giant lump at the base of my throat.

I just want it to go away. I can't focus on any of my work with this feeling... but I can't seem to make it go away.

Please help...

Hi Avenc17
I am wondering if you are stressed at the moment? The reason I ask is because I used to suffer from these feelings in my chest and lower throat. I was really worried and went to my GP who said it was caused by anxiety and he called it globus hystericus. The more I worried about it, the more I noticed it but as soon as I knew that it wasn't anything harmful, I started to feel better about it.
Maybe you should make an appointment to have a chat with your GP just to put your mind at rest.
I hope you soon feel better huns.
Best wishes
Maz xx
100% agree with mazz.
I had a similar problem many years ago when I was going through a Krappy marriage and then divorce. I was VERY stressed and VERY worked up all the time. It was a plain old lump in the throat or a globus hystericus. It's strange, but once the doctor told me that, I felt a million times better and the problem went as quickly as it came. I hope you feel better VERY soon. xx Jan
Me too. See the doctor for reassurance, but anxiety springs to mind first xx
It is called globus hystericus.
I agree with all the above posters.
janbee...sorry...didn't see that you mentioned it in your post.
My first thought was anxiety, too. See your GP for reassurance.
I had it recently. Its very frustrating.
Its called globus sensation or globus pharyngeus these days. The term globus hystericus was previously used because of the belief that psychogenic factors were involved .However, it is now widely considered that globus sensation can have underlying physiological or anatomical causes, so it may not be anxiety related. Book in to see your GP.
How coincidental. I've had a lump in the throat issue for some time now. Had a few tests at the hospital and awaiting the follow up GP appointment. The GP asked about stress, but I'm unsure if the patient's idea of whether they are stressed is gong to coincide with the medical profession's. And my woman tells me she thinks I've been extra stressed over the last month. But if anything it's *because* of medical symptoms rather than the cause. But it is interesting to see others suggestions for your symptoms.
