Whatever the existing hate laws or any future change to them, Choudary's legal knowledge will be such that he should know the boundaries preventing him from serious charge(s). No surprise. He's not stupid.

No, I'm not surprised either Naomi. Perhaps he will overstep the mark in the future. It just seems daft to me that he can continue to spread such hate and bile and not be guilty of anything.

But there is a way of dealing with him, and it doesn't involve the law at all.
The BBC, Ch4, etc should stop inviting him on to primetime TV programs. Lets just ignore him. Only a very few people can see him on the streets but millions see him on Newsnight. Lets starve him of the oxygen of publicity once and for all, and he might suffocate.
He is ‘the enemy within’, and we need to know what he’s saying. His performances through the media are not advantageous to him or to his philosophy. They impress very few, and those they do impress are of similar mind anyway. Ignoring him would allow him to spout his bile to the gullible without challenge.

The way I see it that he will continue to preach hate on the streets, whether he is on Newsnight later on that day or not. I have seen many interviews with him over the last couple of years and debating with him is like trying to nail custard to the wall. It just doesn't work. He uses every prime time appearance to his own advantage, as he knows his followers will be watching and he can then say that he is being victimised by us. He twists everything that is said and refuses point blank to answer simple questions, like did he condemn the British Muslims that caused the 7/7 atrocities.

So, lets ignore him for a while and see what happens. It can't make it any worse.
I'm pretty sure his every move will be being watched.

Zacs....he has been watched by the security forces for a long time now, and one day he will commit a fatal error, and give himself away. Clever people like him always trip themselves up eventually. Their inherent arrogance blinds them and makes them think they are bullet-proof. I just hope I am around to see his downfall.
Being odious is not against the law (or half the Commons would be locked up).

He is being harrassed by the authorities who arrest him for no good reason.
// a violation of allegiance to one's sovereign or to one's state.\\
An example of treason, so why can't he be charged with this?
No great surprise to me that he has not been charged with anything and there will be plenty who agree with Choudary that the timing of his arrest was 'politically motivated'.

Mikey, let us hope that if he is found to have broken the law we don't see any repeat of the Hamza affair where it took a decade over the legal process after attempts to frustrate and delay extradition proceedings.

He may trip himself up but our laws and procedures must not trip ourselves up...
The best we can hope for is that he takes a sick child abroad or fondles a female stranger.
That's the kind of thing that exercises our guardians of Laura Norder,
Gromit... So it's OK to back the perpetrators of 9/11, 7/7, Lee Rigby's murderers (looks like he probably trained them), burn poppies and demonstrate when soldiers are brought back in coffins. This individual has been allowed to spew his hate on theBBC and Channel 4 (as Mikey says, shame on them). He's a qualified lawyer yet lives on benefits. If the Hate Laws brought in by Labour allow this man to walk the streets then they are not working.
Where are the Mossad when you need them?
He has been released on Bail.
He was arrested along with others, premises were searched, evidence was removed, he was released on bail because the investigation is on going and he cannot be kept in custody without being charged.
Doubtless, if sufficient evidence has been found, he will be charged and dealt with when he answers his bail.
Whatever the existing hate laws or any future change to them, Choudary's legal knowledge will be such that he should know the boundaries preventing him from serious charge(s).

Gromit makes a valid point in that it is one thing to be deemed odious but it is another matter to breach an existing law(s).

Regarding Rigby's murder, I recall Choudary's input in a Newsnight debate where he expressed 'shock' but refused to 'condemn'. This is nothing new in the sense that Irish Republican figures often refused to enter the world of 'politics of condemnation'.

Choudary, as has been said, is no fool and although he will be watched very closely, he will not be easily reeled in.
Because he's been released on bail does not mean the matter is finished AG, it simply means that, at this time, there is insufficient evidence to charge.
Computers, documents and all the other evidence has to be analysed which will take time and our pc codes of conduct mean that he cannot be kept in custody on the evidence that exists at the moment.
Shoota, yes that's right. My first post was a bit presumptious but my follow up comments stand in that I would be surprised even with the seizure of equipment, etc that he has given the authirities significant ammunition. We shall see...
One of those arrested has been charged with terrorist offences.
Lets hope the smoke/fire rule applies to them all.

AG, ///

If it is I who you are referring to, where have I said that the matter is finished?

I was merely pointing out that he has not been let off scot free as the OP seems to imply.
^ what's the betting he is not a lawyer?
