This University must be awash with money if it can afford to spend so much money on 7 very ordinary-looking chairs. The mind boggles !

///Professor David Coslett, deputy vice chancellor, said the university hoped to pay for the chairs through "private donations and charitable foundations"///
Only £21,000 for each chair which does not seem too bad :-)

I have just noticed that these chairs only have three legs. At £21,428 per chair, I think that the University should be entitled to 4 legs at least !

And if they are going to be used for ceremonial purposes, shouldn't they be taller and a little more grand ? These look as if they should be around a dining table.

Baldric...wouldn't the money have been better spent on some essential ?

Granted, should have been in News as it's topical, not CB.

VHG...over £21,000 for a chair isn't "too bad" ...where do you buy your chairs...Harrods ?

Sorry Chili...didn't realise that it had already been posted ! More grist for the Mill perhaps.
At least the students that will be paying off their tuition fee loans for the next 30 years will know that the money was spent on something useful.
Unfortunatley it does not surprise me.
Perhaps they'll prove to be a good investment!
They look extraordinarily ugly to me. I wouldn't give you tuppence for them. They also look slightly obscene, too, somehow.
My daughter is currently paying her loan off from Plymouth! Whatever, £21K for a chair, what a con, a fool and his money is easily parted.
This is like one of those joke stories in the Private Eye.
If they are so eager to invest why don't they buy property and turn it into flats for the students. Charge the going rate for rent and maintain the property - a much more sensible investment.

Maybe I should go to university
