1400 children abused......

cases of beatings, petrol being poured over them, and even worse.

Where was the Council and police, reports and complaints covered up? Not one council employee reprimanded or punished.

Disgraceful, absolutely disgraceful.

What will be the fall out of this? Other Yorks towns similarly affected?

well with all the other cases, just how many more Rotherhams are there?

As to the other thread, race is not the issue - I don't care a monkey's what origin they have, children should not be subjected to this and it is an abject failure of the system. Is there corruption of the Council or Police involved here.....
Yes, completely agree, DT.

Just been listening to the BBC report (the BBC, remember, readers, not the Daily Mail). The gist of it was this (and I paraphrase):

The overwhelming majority of these abuses were committed by men of "British Pakistani" origin. The authorities, which included the local council and the police, were far more concerned with "social cohesion" than with protecting the children from abuse.

I read that as not rocking the boat. Instead of enforcing the law and making sure that people living in this country abide by the laws of this country, a "blind eye" has been turned because it is customary in Pakistan to operate abuse in this way.

We are now reaping what we have sown. This is the result of the disastrous experiment that is called multi-culturalism. These people are of a different culture to the majority in this country. Their culture leads them to commit serious crimes on an epic scale. Those crimes have been covered up to preserve "social cohesion". Good, innit?

Vote for Tony, vote Labour.
But surely no action is needed? The obligatory lessons have been learned, all stones turned and all responsible have been held to account and will either keep their pensions or get payoffs for stress.

Oh wait........
Good post judge, your words needed to be said although there are some on here who won't care for you pointing them out, I tried in an earlier post and was accused of xenophobia by one, but unlike those who were frihghtened of being classed as racist in Rotherham it won't silence me.
This is simply too bad to be true. Any Local Authority, Police Force, School, etc, etc might miss a few children being abused, but 1400 ? How many children are there in Rotherham...25 million ?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-south-yorkshire-28939089

This goes way beyond any capacity for excuses.

To blame this on multiculturalism is an obscenity in itself. Jimmy Savile, Cyril Smith, Gary Glitter, etc all managed to abuse 1000's of children over the years, maybe 10,000's and they were highly conspicuous by their entirely white skin...Savile even had white hair, for pitys sake.

As an obviously educated man NJ, you should be ashamed of yourself. All these people that I have named, plus the ones responsible for this current disgrace in Rotherham have much more than race or skin colour in common...they were all men. How about we ban all men from coming to Britain ?
The full report is here and it makes absolutely appalling reading:

file:///C:/Windows/system32/config/systemprofile/Downloads/Independent_inquiry_CSE_in_Rotherham%20(1).pdf

a complete failure of political and executive leadership, where only front line staff emerge with some credit

and for those gnawing at an agenda about "multiculturalism," pages 91 to 95 may be worth a read - it might, just might, just make you think about men, abuse and power

We call ourselves civilised and let this happen. Shocking.
thanks dt, it's been a bad IT day...
Anyone who has worked in public services over the last 30 years, I was a teacher, will tell you that the authorities are terrified of being accused of racism, hence lots of things are swept under the carpet or simply ignored. I was accused of racism because I told an Asian lad to have his coursework on my desk by 9am Monday morning or he wouldn't be entered, and instead of doing the work he made a complaint, backed by his community leaders. It was only because the other lads in the class spoke up about how long overdue this work was that it was dropped, but I was told to be more sensitive! 90% of the other lads were also Asian and they'd done theirs on time.

The question is who in the Home Office (back up from Justice etc) will take the lead to take these awful learning lessons and ensure mechanisms to counter such behaviours in the future, as well as the education that the UK does not and will not tolerate them or any instance of rape or abuse, whatever the race, ethnicity, socio-group, age or sex. If I was DC, I would be collaring my friend Theresa tomorrow morning and asking for a skeleton plan of action, milestones and targets within three months.

And also covering issues like zebo has raised - now this would truly be the Big Societal changes that Cameron has vapidly been chasing at times. Also 'quick wins' need to be identified and tackled.
Zebo - I've got the T-shirt, back you completely, the authorities were terrified of being called 'racist' and the children and 'community' learned to use that. Result was that the elephants in the room were ignored completely.
I've mentioned on AB before that I grew up in the care system in Leicester. The sort of thing that is being reported here was going on there in the early 80s. I know for a fact it was because I was approached more than once and I had friends who did actually get involved with the men. Nothing was ever done by SS to stop it and none of the men were prosecuted to my knowledge.
Pakistani had morphed into Asian after a couple of bulletins, New Judge.

Looks like even now a manual device for digging holes has to be called a device similar to a shovel
Daffy, I can assure you it was going on in the 70s, too, and the perpetrators did not belong to one racial group.
Children in care homes have long been targetted by opportunistic men. These vulnerable youngsters can't be locked in and can't be made to admit they are being abused.
This is a local and national disgrace. I am sure 'lessons will be learned', but the same mistakes (if 'mistakes' is the correct word to use) will be made again in the future.

Local authorities, in this case Rotherham, social services, the police, GPs and hospital trusts need to create a joined up infrastructure and have the guts to place children under protective orders, recognising that the safety of children is paramount over *every other consideration*. That includes any possible accusation of racial bias.

Also, if possible, can the usual suspects *please* try to avoid making this thread about them...again!

This thread is far too important to be used as a silly point-scoring arena.
