it sends shivers down my spine. I don't think i would ever be a have a go hero, but i wonder if the outcome of the inquest will mean anyone is arrested or charged?

I think this will be recorded as an accidental death - which it appears it was.
There will be people who thought this man 'got what he deserved', but I don;t think anyone deserves to die of anything but natural causes.
As for the poor baby he has left behind, as well as other family and friends - they don't deserve their pain and sorrow either.

I agree with Tora. This lowlife armed himself with a sledgehammer to steal from hard-working people just trying to make a living. Who knows what would have happened if he had not been grappled to the ground? He could have swung his sledgehammer and killed an innocent bystander. Then you would all be singing from a very different hymn sheet.

DT says no charges - one witness says he ( dead one ) was swinging a sledge hammer near the jewellers head and had no regard for safety.
Altho it is still moot I think whether you can kill so save someone else life, it is quite clear you can kill to preserve ( lawfully ) your own life
I think a good case will be made that all thse involved were in fear of their own lives
Apocryphal case in Manch - the Brass handles pub Ordsall now closed for reasons which will become obvious - two people walked into the pub with guns and were disarmed by the drinkers.
They ended up dead on the green outside and the drinkers went back to their drinking work.....

For those who claim excessive force, people can become almost superhuman when it becomes apparent to them that they're about to lose their liberty.
I was once in a custody suite with a suspect. Getting booked in, everything going fine until he was asked to remove his jewellery.
He went absolutely Radio Rental, started kicking, punching, biting, spitting, screaming etc. It took 6 of us to restrain him and prevent him from head butting the floor.
It turned out he liked to work on his physique and had a fit of 'roid rage'.
In extremis, some will act and behave as befits their situation.

Nurse Sarah Seaman, who witnessed the incident, told the coroner: "I got close to the gentleman on the floor to check he was OK. He said he couldn't breathe but he didn't say that in a way you would if you couldn't breathe. He just said it matter-of-factly."
I would have thought it obvious that, if 8 people were piled on top of another person, that person wouldn't be able to breathe. It's like death by having a load of rocks piled on you. Apparently he was unconscious when the police arrived but died in hospital the next day.
Whatever you think of the man, he didn't deserve to die like that and it must have been traumatic for the 8 to find out that he had actually died.
Horrible incident for the shop staff too.
