Hopefully now their situation is made more public a local age related charity may be able to gently talk them round. They seem to be very set in their ways and need help to get things resolved in the simplest way possible. So often, people don't have the time or patience to take a while and listen to someone's fears and allay them - let's hope they are put on the right...

Pay your rent or get out.

Landlords do not represent a philanthropic society, they are there to make money.

I bet that there is more to this than "meets the eye."

Now that benefits are being paid electronically they fell behind as not sure what to do or distrusting of system.

They weren't forced to live rough. They've chosen to live rough.
Unfortunately it seems they just need a little help with modern technology.
''Shocking pictures show OAP couple forced to live rough after being evicted from their home''
the article reports the opposite to be true so who wrote the misleading newspaper title?

would it be so hard to pay some of the older people by giro if that is what they want
DrFilth yes it seems it would, the older generation of which I am one have to get to grips with it or lump it?

over 1 year back when i had a land line my bank phoned me trying to start internet banking they gave up after 1/2 an hour :-)
Yes, that's right - get with it or lump it. Things move on. If you still wanted to be paid in shillings, tough!
Ha I would have put the phone down long before that,I am of the opinion if I wanted to buy something, join something, enlist in something etc,I would do it myself without coercion from anyone on the phone?
Blackcat the older generation are used to being paid in cash, and pay in cash, then they can keep a better idea of finances etc, there is a lot to be said for that IMO.

vakayu i once had a bloke from germany call and ask me a few questions ( take no more than 10 minutes sir ) on my mobile for 58 minutes bet he was sorry he phoned :-)
"Blackcat the older generation are used to being paid in cash, and pay in cash, then they can keep a better idea of finances etc, there is a lot to be said for that IMO. "
perhaps, but tough!
older generation people were used to pounds shillings and pence too, but couldn't get paid in those
;0) I bet that was a costly survey,I am either too busy at the moment or pretend not to be who they are looking for to help with their "few" questions.
They just need someone to teach them how to use electronic banking and they'll be sorted. If they had explained all this to their landlord maybe he could have helped them to set up a direct debit for the rent payment.
