What's worrying about that survey is that so many people actually expressed a view on the NHS, in comparison with the health services of other countries, where 'don't know' should have been the correct response for the vast majority of them.

I simply refuse to accept that most of the people who responded to the survey actually know about the quality of healthcare in France, Italy, San Marino, Andorra, Malta, Singapore, Spain, Austria, Japan, Norway, Portugal, Monaco, Greece, Iceland, Luxembourg and the Netherlands, all of whom are placed higher than the UK in the league table of health provision by the World Health Organisation.
What do they know of England who only England know? You could substitute 'the NHS' for England there.^
Is quoting Kipling politically correct these days, Sandy?
;-)
The Devil can quote scripture for his own ends. So maybe now we can quote devilish imperialists for ours.
mikey....that is about the 3rd time that i have seen that link today.

Does it mention that the UK has among the worst survival rates for cancer in Europe.

I want a free health service for the "needy" should remain, but with considerable changes to make it an affordable organisation.

I have been involved in another thread today (my own thread) and I have said all i have to say.

Buenchico's post above is very relevant to this thread.

I am sick and tired about the UK "knocking" other health care systems in other countries, with having only cursory knowledge, which are equally as "good" as the NHS.
Be grateful that we have a Health Service !
Nothing is perfect, but it's FREE, warts and all
When you have to start Paying for your Health Care let us see what your reaction is than !!
>>>Nothing is perfect, but it's FREE

Apart from the prescription charges, optical costs, dental fees, chiropody charges, etc, etc (not to mention simply parking your car at a hospital to actually access 'free' health services, of course!)
It's not free.

Buenchico...nobody can argue, least of me, that the NHS is free in the same way it was in the 1960's, but here in Wales we do not have to pay prescription charges and our hospital car parks are free of charge. But you are dead right on all the others. Dentistry is a absolute scandal.

The only country that I know well enough to compare to Britain is the USA.
I repeat that my many friends over there live in abject fear of losing their jobs, as their health care package is lost as well. The alternative is dire and unobtainable for many. Even their ex-Military have problems, as can be seen from the NYT link ::

Meaningless statistics. Completely agree with buenchico.
mikey...good morning.
I am sorry that I didn't give your thread the attention that it deserved, but I was exhausted trying to keep up with TTT yesterday.

Yes, one quote WAS, the " Best health Service in the World" but further down in that report or was clear that it meant and said " One of the Best Health Services in the World." A bit different......you would agree.

U Gov......what would we do without U Gov? Any report certainly would not rubbish the NHS and a Tory Health Minister, just before the run up to a General Election will jump at such a proclamation.

It would seem fairer to compare the NHS to a European System rather than a " questionable" U.S system.

The report doesn.t seem to go into " quality of Care" or " affordability."

I hope that I have stated my position fairly.

Thanks Sqad...all clear ! As I have said, the only other country that I am familiar with is the USA and although they don't seem, rather puzzlingly, to want an affordable health-care system, I am glad that I live on this side of the Pond. I'm sure that if they removed the words "socialised medicine" they would like it a whole lot more. Our Colonial friends seem to have a rather hackneyed view on socialism. As you know, my brother had a bad head injury last year and I dread to think what would have happened if he lived in America. As it is, his business is in ruins and his mortgage is being paid at present by me and my brothers. His bone flap is now back in place and he is now making an excellent recovery, so we hope for the best.
