/// They will be operated using two simple buttons - go and stop - and navigate using GPS, sensors and camera data. ///

They could still 'do you' for pressing the 'GO' button while under the influence of drink.
The laws would need to be changed, then.

At the end they also state

///"And drunk and distracted driving? History."///
2 buttons. even 'the girls' should manage them. ;)
Seems like every fifteen years or so since WWII someone comes out with a self-driving car. Generally they're hailed by experts as the answer to the problem of road safety. Funnily enough. none of them have ever caught on.

I might have guessed the girlie jokes would start.

Be it on your own heads lads !
It's a good idea, in general, not sure if cabbies and bus drivers would be particularly happy about it - but then, maybe they should look forward to being liberated from the very dull labour of driving like the rest of us?

It would work assuming there was a majority of these things on the road - not sure I would trust my life with it when there's still human drivers out there.

Additionally they will have to write crash programs. This means that when a driverless car has calculated that it is going to be involved in a crash - it's just unavoidable - and it has the choice of crashing into an old car with a safety rating of 2/5 with only one person in it, and another mewer car with a safety rating of 4/5 and a whole family in it - which does the car choose?

Which would you program it to choose?
Yeah but is there room to lie down in the back for a nap ?
Don't programme it to choose. Program it to avoid, and when it doesn't, it hits whatever it hits according to the best the avoid programme managed. In any case if it read the developing situation it would know not to get in that position. The only accidents would be when something else goes into it faster than can be avoided.
Why does it have to look like a Japanese cartoon character?
So how is it going manage at traffic lights ?

I think they sound great, mind you I hate driving. so to be able to get in and go to sleep sounds ideal to me!
