HSCIC = Health and Social Care Information Centre (aka care.data)

Further to two (or more?) recent threads, here's news about potential for Police-State-like powers to access your medical data without any requirement for you to be suspected of anything and, hence, no requirement for a warrant.

I can forsee no possible anti-terrorism benefit from knowing things about you such as your

Date of Birth
NHS number
Postcode
Gender
Sexual orientation
History of STIs
History of alcohol/substance misuse
History of depression
Suicidality
Other mental illness (this whole story is Paranoia city, to be honest!)
Allergies
Other illness vulnerabilities/tendencies

By contrast, they are currently up to their ears with petitioners, political activists and journalists getting under their skin and want the Police to be able to fish around for weaknesses which can be plastered all over the papers to tear these people down.

These cover more general aspects of a new database and personal reactions to it. I'm hoping this thread can concentrate on the ethical/legal aspects of Police access to your data.

Thanks, Tony.

I'm still puzzled by the apparent lack of concern, on this forum, at this attempt to erode people's civil liberties.

I think that some people believe that the use of their details on a care.data system will be a life saver for them , should they be taken suddenly ill away from their local GP. Very naive in my view. I for one, do not think that the survival of any individual is that important to a government and health care provision in any country.
Ok it's Saturday (and I don't use my brain on the weekend (or use it much full stop)). In a nutshell, what is the problem with sharing this medical information and what are the advantages (ie could someone do a little 'idiots guide to the new medical thing' please?).
