http://www.brightonandhovenews.org/2013/12/19/councillor-found-guilty-of-misconduct-for-saying-gollwogs-are-not-racist/26080

It appears in this one that this 72 year old Councillor said she thought golliwogs were 'nostalgic, not racist' and that she also dismissed complaints against a city for store selling golliwog place-mats as 'political correctness gone too far', is to undergo 'diversity training' (Brain Washing) since her comments provoked complaints from three people and the council's Black and Minority Ethnic Workers' Forum.

The hearing which took place behind closed doors lasted more than five-and-a-half hours and was attended by three fellow councillors and a number of senior council staff.

OTT or what?

After further research it would seem that Brighton and Hove City Council should first get their own house in order before picking on just one particular Councillor.

>>>Black .... Workers' Forum.

Sounds a bit racist to me, highlighting a person based purely on the colour of their skin.

But then people who set up groups like this never see the irony of their choice of name.

A few weeks ago a group was complaining about racism in football and the spokesperson was a member of the Black Solicitors Network or something similar.
Imagine how bad the muppets that do the brain washing are ?

another complete and utter joke by the total idiots that run our pc riddled councils
Totally agree baz

Oh dear, is there no end to this repetitive garbage being churned out?

No one can possibly call Barbie racist.

She might be if she could speak aog (joke)
She was cleared of accusations of "directing a racist remark" at anyone. That's worth stressing before anyone shouts about the PC Brigade.
Not the old Golliwog debate again ? We probably wouldn't use that name if we were starting from scratch today, but to waste all this time and money on such a trivial subject makes me weep. What nonsense.
and if we were starting from scratch today we wouldnt have these total pc riddled muppets running our councils either
Comment by Valerie in link "...blackening a councillor’s name..." color is derogatary now. Best 'whitewash' the case - lol
the people that need the training are the ones that live here and call themselves "British" as a label of convenience but dont want to assimilate at all, the ones who dont speak English, the ones who have no interest in our culture or ways , the ones that just want our country for their own benefit.etc etc
Baz...with greatest of respect, what has that got to do with the Golliwog issue ? This debate has been going on for at 30 years, and has nothing to do with the race issue.

I seem to remember that a council in the West Country tried to rename all its manholes as personholes a few years ago...its the same mentality. We should just ignore these tiresome people.
'diversity training'

what part of that did you miss in the OP ?
Saw this story but didn't post it because it's a 'non-story' in that the Daily Mail will play for all its worth but is of no significance in educational value to the public nor is it worthy of news. Leave it to AOG, thought I; he's bound to ! ( I must take up prediction for a living )

Did you notice that woman was 'acquitted' of the substantive 'charges' ? What appears to have concerned the Council was that she was not aware of when or in what circumstances the word golliwog could be offensive. She may well not know that it can ever be; it may just the name for a doll to her, a doll which used to be common, featured on jam jars, and which is now charmingly retro. That ignorance puts her below the standards expected of councillors
You ignore them at your peril mickey, as the old saying goes - you give them an inch and they take a yard.
"it may just the name for a doll to her, "

so who decided its now offensive ?...doesnt offend me, its just a doll

these people make me puke with their holier than thou attitude, you cant say this because , you cant say that because blah blah

why dont these fools actually do something useful insetad of nonstop looking at things to be offended by...Salad Chefs, every last one of them

if we could turf these petty nobodys out of office we'd all be a lot better off for it
"you give them an inch and they take a yard. "

replace yard with country
Out of interest, baz, do you think the word which is golliwog without the 'golli' bit is offensive ? It is a shortened form of golliwog and has long been a term of racial abuse. Do you not think, given that, that the full word can be racially offensive, a term of racial abuse?
you can only be offended if you want to be or youre told you should be offended as these fools love to point out all the time

I'm not offended in the slightest bit, why should I be ?
