I expect that 'too late' or 'not enough' or 'Muhammad was a paedo' will no doubt spread across the pages of AB, but this should be acknowledged as a positive start?

The troble is that the people listening the sermon will be the ones least likely to need to hear it. And the groomers probably never darken the door of a mosque.
Do you think the Catholic Church will follow suit?

What? Too soon?
positive start, yes, why didn't they notice before hand. the police have tiptoed around the matter, racial and cultural sensibilities, instead they prefer to see the matter as something the community should deal with, no it shouldn't. If it's ingrained in some societies that women in general are worthless, regardless of their ethnicity, then how do you combat that.
in pretty much the same way that people like Jimmy savile and stuart hall got away with their vile behaviour, some are complicit in it. and they are not always the law breakers, but law makers.
I think it's a great start, and could be an important step towards more dialogue with the Imams on other issues.
jake, what do you mean about the Catholics?
Be great if it works.

Then there will be no more of this

Of course this is a positive start Octavius, and it should be welcomed and applauded. There would seem to be a problem with a very tiny minority of the Muslim male community and hopefully this will help. My only reservations are that will the kind of people that have perpetrated these crimes attend their Mosque in the first place ? After all, we have a huge problem with anti-social crime on some of our mostly-white housing estates but I wonder how much use there would be if the local Vicar was to get try to address this in his sermons, especially as his congregation may barely be in double figures every Sunday. But its a start and should be encouraged.

But the knuckle-draggers that inhabit the outer fringe of AB will soon be out of bed and posting !

They try to hide their basic xenophobic and racist tendencies underneath bleating about "the destruction of our British Culture" but not very successfully as you can still hear those knuckles from a long way away !

I would hope so Jake, some attempts have been made over the years, 2002, 2010 Easter addresses etc, but long may it continue.

Good point mikey, so how could the message get spread to the non-practicing religious and atheists?
so this is what you think of some

in patriarchal societies women are not particularly valued, so why should it be just a few who do these type of crimes, and as you may have noticed it was mostly young white, and very vulnerable girls who were targeted.
if you read the list of crimes they committed it doesn't bear thinking about.
Talking about knuckle-draggers - don't you just love mikey4444's avatar!
i don't care for the attitude much, like some on here, who are happy to condemn the parents of these girls, without knowing any of the children's stories, home life or how they ended up in care.

Is there a suggestion here that groups of predatory Catholic men have been combing the streets, picking up young venerable girls, feeding them alcohol and drugs before raping and selling them? I haven't heard about that, must have missed it.

vulnerable
That was posted on the Huff 14th June, and so far, not one UK national newspaper has reported the story.

It is something every muslim will already know, but it may be a reminder to some in the Pakistani community who knew what these men were up to but did not report it. It is their duty as a muslim, as a citizen and as fathers and grandfathers to rid their community of these evil people.
that would be boys i suspect, over time...
Gromit, this was covered in the news this morning, i was listening to the radio earlier... time for communities of whatever hue to stop covering for vile behaviour, wife beating, child abuse and sexual abuse of girls, all should be stopped, or at least when it;s found, reported immediately to the authorities, instead of covering their backsides with mealy mouthed words, lessons will be learned. no they won't if people won't come forward.
Octavius. There is always going to be a problem reaching people who refuse to engage.

For instance, 2 years ago, I worked on the Census. There was a massive amount of pre-publicity about the Census in the weeks leading up to its start in May 2011.....huge advertising hoardings, adverts on the TV, radio and in the newspapers. The Census packs that arrived through every letter box in the land couldn't have been more eye catching. And yet everybody on my Team were amazed that such a lot of people looked at you blankly when you called at the door to offer help to complete their forms. They had never heard of the Census apparently. Most of them at least were uneducated and stupid but not all.

The publicity surrounding all these recent court cases has been very pervasive and you would have thought that almost everyone was aware of the basic details at least. But no....I met someone only yesterday that didn't know either that Jimmy Saville was dead or that he was a serious sexual offender !

So, Churches, Mosques, etc are a start. But this can't be a one-off...the campaign has to be on-going throughout society.

Child sexual abuse has been a growing concern for a number of years now. The internet must take it share of the blame I suspect. But we mustn't think that it is confined to one community in Britain. I have said on here before that Saville, Hall, Glitter, etc were conspicuously white. In fact even Savilles hair was white. Parents need to be aware of what their kids are getting up too, especially when they are on-line. They need to make sure that the younger ones are not hanging around unsavoury places late at night. Social Services need to pull their fingers out and make sure that when kids are in care, it means exactly that....CARE.
Is it surprising that a culture with such a primitive view of love and sex would produce such astonishing numbers of sexual offenders?

Makes sense to them, I suppose.
