No wonder their detection rate for abducted children is low, if this is the sort of thing they deem as criminal activity.....

Well that really takes the .......... biscuit! How stupid! ;)
Jammy dodgers gave them away. (Sad story though)
So - bingo is illegal in Portugal. It cccc looks like it is the most severe crime that can be committed.

There is probably a bit of history to all this - but even so it is a bit OTT.

Totally and utterly ridiculous. Going all the way to Portugal to sit in a British pub and play bingo is totally and utterly ridiculous. And quite expensive as well by the looks of it.
Well of course, it's not the police who make the laws. They are there to enforce the ones that are made by the politicians. Equally, it was the courts who sentenced everybody, not the police.

That said, "Sorry, do you realise what you're doing is illegal? I'll give you five minutes to pack it in" might have gone some way to improve relations between tourists, bar owners and the police.

I used to love Albufeira years ago. It's a horrible dump now imho.
While the Police appear to have gone a bit mad in this instance, surely there is another aspect of this case that has been overlooked.

I have never been to Portugal but how bored would you have to be to think that playing Bingo, for biscuits or anything else for that matter constituted
excitement ?
Wow. Priorities?!
This is someone running a business for years . So she would know their laws. They were only playing for 'drinks and biscuits'. Yeah ! of course they were. Same as in the army we only played with 'matches' .

I wonder if they ban cribbage and dominoes ?
Octavius - I love your answer! What are we all tutting for? It's not the UK, it's another country, and whilst in that country you have to abide by their rules. If you don't like it then come home!
