Why aren't our leaders prepared to condemn Israel, for these continuous attacks?

Retaliation for rocket attacks from Gaza, and the right to self defence is one thing, but the widespread slaughter that Israel is inflicting on innocent civilians is not the answer surely.

/// President Barack Obama spoke separately to Israeli and Egyptian leaders yesterday as the violence in Gaza intensified. In a conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, he reiterated US support for Israel’s right to self-defence. ///

/// Tonight, David Cameron urged Israel to 'do everything possible' to end the crisis. In a phone call with Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu, he expressed sympathy for the continued 'unacceptable' rocket attacks. ///

aog # but the widespread slaughter that Israel is inflicting on innocent civilians #

You emotive definition of 'widespread 'needs an explanation . The highest number so far reported by Hamas is 64 Sunday 6pm.
"The Palestinians have been treated abominably"

you do realise who kicked them out and from where most of their current predicament arises from ? you should read up on black September, might put things into perspective.

its almost trendy to blame Israel for the problem
Israel doesn't know when to stop. In their last assault on the Palestinians they kept pounding and pounding even though they had surrendered and lost many more lives in the process. Vengeful is a polite word to accuse them of. The last episode they were bombing schools and many innocent people suffered their wrath.
pdq I'm not defending Israel but to keep the record straight. Hamas used schools and hospitals from which to fire missiles and launch attacks on the invading Israelies. The schools were not being used by children at the time of the war. So your remark is irrelevant. The total number of civilans killed was 743. Trying to make it sound like WW II weakens your post.
The UN report also stated that Hamas had used children as human shields.

Whilst I sympathise with the Gazaens it was them that elected the extreme Hamas party rather than the more moderate Fatah . Hamas then waged war against Fatah who were forced to go to the West Bank .
I blame Israel and there are thousands of interned Israelis who agree with me.
Tragic, all the more so because the participants are not amenable to a rational compromise. This is a war to the death between two implacable opponents, and the only hope for the West is that we may be able to stay out of it, though I fear that because of the support offered to both sides from the West, this may not be possible. Whilst not being susceptible to Armageddon-like prophecies, I can't help feeling that this will turn out to be very significant.
bazwillrun, I don’t do ‘trendy’, or political correctness, and I know my history - and that’s what I’m talking about – history – and relatively recent history at that. The Palestinians have been treated abominably, and yes, they have fought back, and not in the best way – but bearing in mind their plight, that is not entirely unexpected. However, since the formation of the State of Israel, the world, and in particular the Arab world, has changed unimaginably, and in view of that, Palestine's repossession of the land of Israel would be a disaster for the planet. The sad fact is there is no viable solution to their problem because neither side will accept compromise – and because of that this conflict will never end.

infundibulum, there's a problem with your second link - Israel’s Pessimistic View of the Arab Spring. Something about security certificates.

Maybe. :o)

How can such ABers as FredPuli43, fail to condemn the over reaction that Israel has committed against the Palestinians, when they witness the harrowing scenes of innocent Palestinian youngsters lying with horrific injuries on operating tables, with their parents not knowing whether or not the poor mites will pull through.

Yes Israel may have had rockets fired against them but little damage has been done, by the few that have got through the Israeli hi tech defence system.

FredPuli43 talks of retaliation, where would he draw the line at an over reaction, Nuclear weapons?

Why not Israel has them.
infund #86 killed in Gaza now now modeller.# !

Wow it's gone from 64 to 86 ! What will aog now call that ? Global disaster maybe ! It will be Armageddon next week.

pdg I suggest you read up a bit of history before making emotive statements. #In their last assault on the Palestinians #
Neither this time nor last time did they attack the Palestinians as a whole.
They are/were attacking the international listed terrorist group Hamas in Gaza.
The Palestinians led by Abbas and previously by Arafat are the recognised Fatah government in the West Bank which you obviously don't know is in Israel . What is more they hate Hamas and don't agree with the shelling of Israel although they have sympathy for the people of Gaza.
What is more many Gazaians don't agree with their Hamas government's actions either.
I condemn the following;

Israel's crushing use of missiles, which despite assurances that they are aimed at legitimate targets, seem to be causing random death and destruction to the Palestinian populace of Gaza.

Hezbollah and Hamas and their frequent 'unprovoked' attacks on Israel.

Israel's continued 'appropriation' of Palestinian land and the construction of Jewish enclaves in the face of UN mandates to desist.

The blockading of Gaza and the treatment of the Palestinians living there.

The radicalisation of young men and women from both sides because of the implacable behaviour of their power-hungry leaders.

The assertion of the Arab-world that Israel and the Jews need to be eradicated from the Middle-east.

Religions of 'peace and tolerance' for ensuring that this situation will never end.

A very unsympathetic remark from a very stupid and uncaring person.
You can dish out criticism aog but you can't take it .

I've never criticised you personally before but I now join many Abers in considering that most of your posts are attention seeking emotive clap trap.

aog, Israel is entitled to use whatever force is necessary to stop the rockets. If the rockets keep coming, Israel is entitled to increase the force applied until they stop coming. The answer lies with the people of Gaza. I doubt whether you applied, or would have applied, your sympathetic argument when the US bombed Hiroshima or when we bombed German cities. These rockets are not aimed at military targets. They are aimed at civilians. At least, at present, the Israelis have the argument that their primary aim is to destroy rocket sites and the structure of command and assistance related to their use, and that civilian deaths are incidental to that. The supporters of Hamas who fire their rockets have no such excuse. If Israel were to adopt their policy, which it has no sign of doing, it would be justified in doing so stopped the assaults.
'
Lest you think so, I am no blind supporter of Israel per se, on some cultural or religious basis. My view is that everything we did in relation to the area after World War I was a big mistake, and the Balfour Declaration was a declaration of intent which was ill-conceived. But what is, is,and we must live with that.
Edit ^"IF doing so" not "in doing so"^
